Ideas for new college-aged resident
My 19 year old daughter will be moving here from the west coast as soon as she finishes up her classes this summer. She plans on taking online classes in the fall, so she won't have a chance to meet any fellow students in person. Any ideas on how she can meet others her age? She would love to take a class locally but it's probably too late to enroll for fall. What else could she get involved in?

Hmm, what does she like to do? Does she play any sports? Like live music? I should probably be able to answer this...I'm 19 as well. I think all my friends and I ever do is longboard, walk downtown, and play video games, lol.

I'm 20 years old. LOL. Places like the Handlebar and the Twisted Bean have concerts where she could meet people. There's also dance clubs like 221 North Main.

Maybe the young adults on this forum could plan a meet and greet? It is no fun to go to something by yourself.
I would still check into those classes; you never know unless you try. This is Greenville, not Chicago.
Does your daughter attend church? If so this would be a great way to meet others her age. If not and she is not against religion, she might want to consider it.

She could volunteer with an organization that's in one of her interest areas... maybe a youth sports league, Habitat for Humanity, etc. Most non-profits are ALWAYS open to new volunteers.

I always figured most people around 19 had friends initially from school/college/church and then met more friends of those initial people but if she doesn't have those 3 things then I suppose she should do what people are saying on here. Most of my friends are from school but I haven't graduated yet.

Those are great ideas. She's pretty active - loves hiking. Now she works at the mall and she's trying to think of a job here where she could meet people her own age. We're only 15 minutes from Clemson, I thought maybe she could look for something around there. She'll be working in the legal field when she gets out of school.
Any specific churches come to mind? We have just started looking for a home church ourselves.
G-Man! I've been reading your posts too long to believe that you're 20 - but your other ideas sound interesting.

If she likes hiking she definitely needs to visit Paris Mountain State Park some time. It's a great place to hike, bike, etc and it's really close. Of course that doesn't help with meeting people, but it's something to keep in mind.

I'm 20. You can ask Skyliner if you don't believe me.
