Why is it the attitude of some that people have chosen to flee other places (i.e. the north) to relocate to The South? People relocate for other reasons than "hating where they lived".
Having lived in various southern cities, there are cultural differences even in "The South". Most larger southern cities are embracing change as a way to grow and stimulate their economies. Welcoming industry and retail growth into a region is bound to change the demographics of a region. No place can stay the same forever and hope to prosper.
I guess some would like to see Greenville remain a relic.

I never meant to imply that people from the north hated where they lived, and fled.
I simply meant that Fl is a place of retirement and young people wanting sun and surf. When younger people get here they find it difficult to deal with jobs (right to work state), no benefits, and low wages. These people flee back to where they have better pay and security.
Maybe I have misintrepeted you, but I am giving you a reason why some go north.

That is very true of many that are born and bred right here in town. For those of us that have come from other larger urban areas (Chicago> hello Driller!) we've been there already and don't necessarily want Greenville to turn into a Chicago or Atlanta. Time will make this happen whether we want it or not but probably not in my lifetime.

Says it well for me of my former hometown; lol!
Everyone is different. Just because I hated Chicago doesn't mean the next guy will hate it.

I'm just saying in general, don't try to change or culture please. I know somebody who ALWAYS complains about The South (saying people are too nice, all rednecks, the accents, The South sucks, etc.).
I'm sure you're nice, so you ought to be fine.

Unfortunately, Greenville is supposed to get as big as Atlanta by 2030.

I AM from the south, and never said that I hated where I lived.
I'm not trying to change the south, just want a small town with friendly people around to raise my daughter. Any other implications are ridiculous.

Well, Florida may be geographically Southern but not culturally except for the top of the state.
I'm just warning you ahead of time. I'm sorry if I came off as accusing you of doing those things.

Let someone break into all of these negative post that makes us look like backwards hicks already. To answer the original posters question. A look at the rise in population usually gives you an idea of how accepting a place is, and Greenville's is indeed on the rise. You just got info from a few of the most negative posters on here. Its hard to get correct info from a message board because you don't know who might respond. Greenville is a very international city and we have lots of different people here.
