Acceptance
Do people accept newcomers in the greenville/spartanburg area? We want to move up there and raise our daughter in a nice small town community, but have read posts saying the areas are not too receptive to outsiders. Is this true?

I don't want people moving here but I'll accept them once they get here.

I think you just got your answer
Welcome to Greenville!
Seriously though, being an outsider moving here, I have run in to some less then positive attitudes surrounding outsiders.

Just don't come to The South and try to change it and if you don't like The South then don't come here or leave. It's simple.
If you are a nice person who tries to adapt then you should be fine.

Being another "outsider" moving here, I have encountered the "don't come here or leave" if you have a less that "positive" reaction to the region.

I guess the Abraham Lincoln Memorial I have planned for down town is out of the question then, huh?
P.S., punctuation is your friend.

Thanks for all the honesty!
Having lived in Fl for the last 24 yrs the best people I've met are from the upper states. People down here are very transient, they come and go like the wind. We just want a friendly place to put roots down and raise our 10 yr old daughter. We're decent blue collar folk who would like a small friendly community with low crime and good schools.

Not everyone in this area has the same attitude as the "person" above. Some people are, in fact, very nice. But, if you deviate from what some people think is the "norm", you will be met with some resistance, either directly or indirectly.

Lol I knew that would be brought up and heavily considered putting a period in there.
Correction: Just don't come to The South and try to change it. If you don't like The South then don't come here or leave.
There now I don't look like a complete moron.
*waits for someone to tell me that it's not the punctuation that makes me look like a moron.*

Just don't come here after fleeing wherever you are and then try to make The South "just like home". If you hated where you lived so much then why would you try to make things like before?
Please don't try to change The South.
The difference between a Yankee and a D*mn Yankee is that a Yankee doesn't try to change the culture. A Yankee also doesn't complain about the differences in culture.
If you are nice and accepting of the South, then you deserve the same.
