Garbage Pickup/Service--Fountain Inn
OK, so I tried various searches in this forum as well as through google and I cannot find information on companies to call to arrange garbage pick-up. The one company our builder referenced said they do not service our area
Either this information is hard to come by, or my "search skills" have been trashed .
Anyway, as of yesterday, my wife and I own a new home in Fountain Inn (not to far from the stores on Fairview Rd. in Simpsonville) and we need to arrange for garbage pick-up. Can someone please clue us in on how this works around here and what choices we have?
Back in San Jose, CA, the city automatically billed the homeowner for garbage and recycling. This was mandatory with no choice about the trash hauler. Over the years, fee increases outpaced inflation to the point that, when we sold our home last December, the cost had risen to about $40 per month with more increases planned. As a matter of fact, our mayor was indicted on bribery charges because he went behind the city council's back to sign the contract with the sanitation company. Charges were later dismissed, but it was a pretty big black eye for the mayor and the city.
Thanks!!!
Mike

I believe you just have to call
Public Works
315 N. Main Street
Fountain Inn, SC 29644
Telephone: 864-409-3334
They will bring a very large wheeled garbage can and recycle bin to your home. Service is free! They can tell you what day pick up is. They also pick up any leaves branches ext. we put at the curb, So far we have no complaints. They do a great job.

Thanks WAZEAZ;
I've visited Fountain Inn's website a number of times, but missed the information on the Public Works page. I'll call them this morning.
Thanks again!

Well, that was a bust. Public Works in Fountain Inn said we are outside of the city limits. I guess we are in Fountain Inn, but not really.
So, I guess I'm still looking for info. on a company to call for garbage pick-up.
Thanks!

We just moved to Easley and since we're outside the city limits, found out that the city doesn't pick up our trash either. Our neighbor said most people just run their trash over to the free dump/recycling station. It's really easy and convenient - I make my husband do it.
Maybe there's something similar where you are?

Thanks! I think my wife feels the same way you do. The problem is I'm the husband!

If you're out of Fountain Inn's service area, try R&J Sanitation. We've been with them since we moved here almost two years ago (from Georgia, not the Northeast believe it or not!). The only complaint I've had with them is they only take household trash, so be sure not to put things like wood, drywall, tires, etc. in with the regular trash. Fortunately Greenville County provides some drop off areas for those type of items, so really they've got you covered either way you go.

Please forgive me for posting something a little off-topic, but this thread makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the towns without city garbage collection. Do some people just dump their trash because they don't want to pay for pickup? I've read that many areas of SC have a big problem with litter, and I'm wondering if that could be part of the problem. I mean, with the price of gas & food increasing so dramatically, perhaps some people will discontinue their private services even if they now have one. Your comments will be appreciated. Thanks.

We live in a beautiful neighborhood, definitely no trash or litter problems. I'm new to the area, but I haven't noticed any problems like that anywhere we've been so far.
