Other than this the city is great, which makes it even more frustrating. Well anyway great post, I appreciated some real common sense.

150 ????
Ok, you were just kidding on the 150, right?
Oh hell, no, no way. Crossing cute little Greenville right off my list.
I can go way east and be on water . Yes, I realize totally different life styles and climate etc. Like Charleston ...but unfortunately they have a horse drawn carriage operating. (I won't live where there's one of them, I'm pro animal).
Anybody notice the CD crime rate in beautiful Greenville is 596 for 2006 and in Charleston it's 463. Both low density both similar diversity. Even Savannah is lower at 423.
Wow check out the registered sex offender rate. Greenville is the highest again. 1 out of 133 residents. The other two cities are 1:422 and 1:706.
1:133 is like where I live in FL the offender capitol LOL.
Good luck to everyone and I hope things balance out in your lovely city. It really is pretty and very appealing to outsiders. Which can be a bad thing in alot of locals' eyes I guess. Maybe they think their teenagers are more entitled to take up valuable real estate lol.

This story was just on the news on fox. They are going too make a curfew for minors not to be allowed in falls park after 9pm with out a adult. And they all so want too make a curfew for teenagers in Greenville.

Downtown problem!
Excellent post! I have been following this topic for a few days and now it seems everyone is on the same page. I am glad about the curfew and the future plans.
I agree with runwithscissors, g-vegas, tinabean and christopherinsc26 something needs to be done now before they get more power.
Also, we are thinking of moving to Greenville but this whole situation made me wonder "is Greenville changing"? Hopefully not..........sure think it's nice.

Hmm, guess you didn't know that Greenville had horse-drawn carriages as well?

p2y2r70, I was thinking the same thing. My daughter loves the carriage rides downtown.

If you see another group that makes you uncomfortable, just inform the authorities and let them handle it. I could't agree more Skyliner. The title of this thread"What Is Going On?"I have read 5 pages of this and sofar I am still asking "What is going on?"A bunch of teenagers hanging out in Downtown Greenville.Something new Huh?Surly they are up to no good, got to be because their teenagers Right?Sofar though,no one has mentioned any crimes(fightings ,muggings, robberies,) or any other signficant thing that anyone should be concerned about. It's just all a perceived fear because of the very presence of these youth hanging out. Now,I do agree,it's to late at night for them to be just hanging out and walking the streets and that probally says more about the parents failure to supervise their children than anything else. But it just seems to me,folks here are being just a little paranoid.Hey,LIGHTEN UP,TEENAGERS ARE EVERYWHERE.

If I, a middle aged woman, were walking down Main St. to go to a restaurant and came upon 300+ teenagers hanging around near that restaurant, I would turn around and go the other way. I think others would, also. This will hurt business on Main St. And without business, this street would be nothing. Just ask the Chamber of Commerce what they think about this new development. The ambiance and pleasant atmosphere of Main St. are a major draw for people and companies to move to Greenville. It gives the city a certain cache' and progressive feeling. You really don't want to lose that just because a bunch of bored teens have nothing to do. And maybe, by their very numbers, they are trying to intimidate the rest of us. Who knows?

I labeled this thread " whats going on" because I have lived here for 22 years and have never seen 200+ teens hangin out in one spot with 10 cops watching them. And as I stated earlier, I witnessed 3 very large fights, so yes they are doing more than just hanging out. Crime and Gangs have to start somewhere, and in this case boredom and fighting will lead to something more. Unless you are totally blind, nobody should have to ask why I brought this thread up.

They are enforcing a 9pm curfew for minors. That should take care of the problem of loitering.
