I'm not sure if anyone has started a thread recently about this coming attraction. I noticed it is 79,000 square feet! Thats a pretty big size. Is this going to be similar to Discovery Place in Charlotte? It looks pretty interesting on the website. Also what is the square footage of Discovery Place? Is this just as big or bigger?
I am not sure how it compares to Discovery Place, but my understanding is that The Children's Museum in Greenville will be the largest in SC and one of the largest (if not the largest) in the Southeast. One really cool thing about the museum is that it will have one of the largest handicapped-accessible climbing structures.
It will be the largest in the Southeast upon completion.
Discovery Place, at 140,000 sq ft, is an exhibition center, children's museum, nature museum, and IMAX all rolled into one, so it's quite different than your standard children's museum.
There was an article about Discovery Place not too long ago in the Greenville News.
How is 79,000sf bigger than 140,000 sf? I am confused! Is the one in greenville 140,000 sf or the one in Charlotte?
The Children's Museum in Greenville is 79,000 square feet, and will be the largest children's museum in the Southeast.
Discovery Place in Charlotte is indeed 140,000 square feet, but it is not considered a children's museum. It includes features for children, but includes other exhibits, an IMAX theater, etc.
The Childrens Museum to open July 23rd: Greenville Children's Museum Set To Open July 23 - Education News Story - WYFF Greenville (http://www.wyff4.com/education/19851203/detail.html - broken link) NOOOOOOO. That's being progressive. We can't have that in Greenville.
