Hi Everone,
Well I actually came down in September to look around as I have a friend that is moving there and she has friends that have moved there. So I looked in to Boiling Springs and Inman and thought it was a beautiful area, there was allot of restaurants and shopping on Hwy 9, and then a mall not to far away in Spartanburg, I ended up having a house built in Inman, in a beautiful new development, and the prices just blew me away, never dreamed I could have a beautiful new home in my whole life. However It was on the contingency I sell my home here which has not happened , so now I have 2 weeks left to find a buyer, well everything happens for a reason I guess. I had looked in to the schools and was very happy with what the Boiling Springs School had to offer and feel that my 13 and 16 year old would be very happy there, and I hear that the district 2 area is one of the best areas besides district 1. Rainbow road held such nice scenery, and the Christmas Tree Farm was amazing. I come from NJ, however was born and raised in Vermont till I was 21, so I'm more of a country girl, laid back, like calm living, not the rushing around, business of where i'm at now. I like the fact to that in Inman your near Greenville, Spartanburg, Boiling Springs, and the mountains so you have a variety of areas at your fingertips should you want sight see, go shopping etc. When I was down there I had eaten at Fatz Cafe, it was very good and actually reminded me of Applebee's. I also like the cracker barrell. I worry alittle bit about moving and my kids being unhappy, and hoping that the kids will be nice to them, but I guess no matter where your at you would feel that way, even being where i'm at now, kids can be kids. I kind of started to worry about ICE STORMS that I hear you have as the house I had built is all electric with the gas pack fireplace, so my question is what do you do during this time? and how long is your electric usually out? and is this common in the winter? I have so many questions, who is your phone company down there? cable company? Any info would be great thank you, Mary |

I moved to Inman right before the big ice storm hit in 2005. Our house is all electric with a gas fireplace also. We just sat in front of the fire that night to stay warm. The power was out for only 1 day at our house but other where out for a week. Duke Energy did a great job of getting the power back on. Since then we have lost power a few time the longest lasted about 8 hours. I bought a portable generator and ran it to keep the refrigerator and freezer going. Its is worth having a generator just in case and they do not cost that much. This year we have not had any ice storms, just about a inch of snow that was gone by the end of the day.
Bell South ( AT&T just bought them) is the phone company, cable TV is with Charter and that is who we use for high speed Internet. Let me know if you need there phone numbers or if you have any other questions Scott |

Just remember- if you are on a well, no electricity means no water. When I lived in CT, we were out for 10 days from a bad storm. We used pond water to flush the toilets, and bought water when we were able to get to the store. If I were on a well, I'd keep 5 gal. of drinking water on hand during the 'season', just as we do here in FL during hurricane season. The best lamp for power outages is an Aladdin lamp, IMHO. They are kerosene, and use a mantle like a gas lamp. They are supposed to be equal to a 60 watt light bulb. Good flashlights are handy too. When the neighborhood goes out, it's DARK!

Thanks so much for the great information, Do you find that there is a big difference in whether you have electric or gas heat? I believe I have city water and a septic system for the bathroom. I'm using to having public sewer system so I just pay for the service every three months. That shouldn't be to much of a difference should it? I found out that I need to hire a garbage company to pick up my trash in Inman, off Rainbow Lake Road. Is that expensive? Do you have to recycle? I have to do cans, bottles, cardboard and news papers here, and if you do how does that work?
When does it start to warm up down there? It's freezing up here in the teens, I can't believe how much I mind it. How's the weather down there? Thanks so much for all your info Mary |

It has been in the 50 to 60s the last few days, It was in the teens in the morning last week when the cold front came through. We use Budget Refuse 864-422-9490 for our trash service and it is $32.00 for 2 months. They give you the big can on wheels. You do not have to recycle, but if you want the county has drop off areas that collect recyclables. I don't think there is a difference weather you have elec or gas heat. I have two units in our house one upstairs that is elec and the main part of the house is gas. people say elec is cheaper to run here then gas.
