My boss is an artist from New Mexico, I'm a chef from NY, I have friends who are in real estate from Oregon, one of my regular customers is a chemist from Texas, I know lawyers from DC, And business men from California. I also know people who are originally from Greenwood, Anderson, Spartanburg, and Fountain Inn.these are just the people who are in my direct vicinity on a regular basis. Downtown Greenville is a melting pot for many people, mainly because of the growing automobile industry here, among other things. When I first moved here it took me awhile to find people who were actually from here!
Now to say that there aren't rural areas very close by would be a lie, you don't have to go far to find small town folk, not that that is a bad thing at all, hell if there were no southerners down here I think we would miss something, its part of the charm!
I moved here for a reason, I like the small town feel, while still being near to large cities and having a decent sized downtown that is growing by the day. I can tell you the same thing I tell everyone else, come here, experience it for a week. decide for yourself, it might not be for you, but I would almost bet you'll really like it down here.
P.S. Racism? Rednecks? you'll find those people everywhere, not just in South Carolina

What happens once our Southerners die out because of all of those other people?

I agree.
Honestly, the whole thing about NASCAR is silly. It's a sport. It's cars going in a circle to win. People act as if they're stealing from homeless people or something.

We consider ourselves simple people but we do have an education and would like to meet people who can talk about more that just nascar and football. The people in Texas will smile and make nice to you then talk about you as soon as your back is turned. Austin, TX is not as bad and that's because you have more educated people which make for a greater mix. We just would like to leave Texas to where it's cooler, not freezing, and can meet with genuinely nice people. My wife and I are artist, by hobby, and would like to meet other artist as well. The "most" important concern is we would like to move somewhere where we can raise our little girl where she can be safe and have a good education. Any input would be greatly appreciated. In addition, we are believers and would like to find a good church. Thanks!

If you like Austin, TX I will recommend you Boulder, CO lots of hippies and yuppies but also one of the most educated cities in the United States, great education and one of the safest places, mind you though no place is perfect, for the last request you probably won't find a traditional Christian Church in Boulder unless it was based somewhat on Buddhism, Hinduism or Cannibas, though people are generally very friendly, Good luck!

Ironically, I'm a black woman married to a white man and I like football and NASCAR! So, would I be considered a redneck or racists. Prejudging is a dangerous thing in any form. That being said, we lived in Greenville about 10 years ago and racism was something we were VERY concerned about before we got there. We were very pleasantly surprised at the warm welcome and excellent treatment we received from the large majority of people (which is why we're moving back). Did we run across racism? Absolutely, but really no more than we had seen anywhere else. If you're really serious about a possible move, I'd suggest a road trip. Spend a little time visiting some of the areas you're considering so you can get a feel for them. And being a Christian, pray for guidance. My hubby and I are youth pastors and moved away about nine years ago, but praise God, He knows we held onto the desire to go back and in His wisdom is leading us back to where we want to be. He'll lead you to the right place for you if you ask.
God Bless!
Denise
P.S. I won the NASCAR fantasy league last year and am currently leading my hubby and all his friends this year!

Die out? lol this isn't natural selection here, I don't think anyone is going to kill them. I'm just kidding with you, but that comment is funny to me

Is there any stats or information on exactly how many transplants are in Greenville?
Im just curious not trying to get off topic.
Do Transplants tend to move to certain areas?
I almost said Yankees but people take offense to that

I don't believe there's any way to track literal natives (those born in Greenville County). However, according to 2000 US Census data on Greenville County:
58.5% of residents were born in SC
35.8% of residents were born in other US states
.8 % of residents were US natives born outside US
4.9% of residents were foreign born
For more details, go to: Community Demographics
BTW, not all transplants ARE Yankees. I am originally from NC.

The way you worded this struck me as funny too. I really don't think our Southerners are going to die out BECAUSE of those "other" people. If would be far more likely for them to die out because of a lifetime of eating Southern food.
