Do Transplants tend to move to certain areas?
I almost said Yankees but people take offense to that

Yeah, not to belabor the point, but as I mentioned earlier... I am a transplant but not a Yankee. The two terms are not always interchangeable.

The way you worded this struck me as funny too. I really don't think our Southerners are going to die out BECAUSE of those "other" people. If would be far more likely for them to die out because of a lifetime of eating Southern food.
|
They won't literally die lol. They'll assimilate to the incoming new culture which will slowly kill the Southern one.

You can say Yankees. I know many a Yankee who call themselves one.

that sounds silly too, I met a 3 year old who was as southern as they come the other day(she was adorable by the way) and I know plenty of southerners who moved up north who never lost their charm and/or accent etc. I think its pretty embedded My boss at the first job I had down here said if you put 1 southerner in a room full of yankees, they'll all come out southern, I tend to agree with that to some extent

Atlanta No Longer Southern

I have lived in Atlanta for 5 years and have not yet met a southerner or really anyone with a southern accent. They are mostly transplants, many with northern accents. Atlanta is not a southern city in the normal sense. It's a huge metropolis of 5 million plus people from all over the country. The actual City of Atlanta has a large population of black people and I don't know any of them, so they could be natives, but again, lots of them are transplants from New Orleans and places north.

I know Atlanta has alot of transplants but i find that hard to believe.
I spoke with two women from Atlanta on the phone last week for..
Something work-related and both had southern accents.
Im sure many people from all over the south move to Atlanta as well.

You don't know ANY black people? Wow! I find that surprising. I thought with the multi-cultural facets of a city like Atlanta it would be hard to not know someone of another cultural background.
