Greenvile Sc Tourists
Can you please give me an idea of how touristy Greenville is ?
How many tourists, the months they most arrive? How crowded does it become? Are your tourists seasonal or is it year round?

I could see people living here...but tourists? There are areas that have much more to do to travel to than Greenville.
*waits for someone to tell me that we have a beach, roller coasters, Empire State Building, Disney World, the Garden of Eden, etc.

Greenville SC Tourists
The reason that I am asking is because I would be seeking possible employment in the Hotel / Hospitality industry and am curious to know what my chances are of landing a job depending on the Month I relocate. Right now many companies have a hiring freeze but by law are still required to post vacant positions.

If anything, I would think most of our "tourists" are regional, looking for a day trip or a weekend away from their own hometown. If I had to pin down a date range for our "tourist" season, it would probably between April and October, since that's when the majority of the outdoor events take place.

Greenville doesn't get that many tourists. We mostly get business travelers. There are several hotels under construction or that have recently been completed in the area including these:
Courtyard by Marriott-downtown Greenville-under construction
Comfort Inn and Suites-Simpsonville-under construction
Best Western-Powdersville-under construction
Value Place-Simpsonville-recently completed
Hilton Garden Inn-Greenville-under construction
Homewood Suites-Greenville-recently completed

To add to G-Man's reply, Greenville (and the Upstate) has done exceedingly well (current economy notwithstanding) in attracting a diverse range of business and industry over the past 15-20 years - both domestic and particularly international. So it stands to reason that a lot of Greenville's hospitality industry is supported by business travel. However, downtown Greenville has become something of a destination in its own right. So it's not a bad mix of the two, and not as seasonal as the obvious tourist destinations on the coast.

Greenville SC Tourists
Thank you so much for all of the replies. I really appreciate the input.
Most people who ask about jobs in Greenville appear to me to be professionals however I would not fall into that exact category.
I am a PBX Operator at a hotel and have Customer Service & Office Experience.

I too am seriously considering Greenville as a place to relocate to, it's at the top of my list right now actually with just one more place to check out. I love the other place, but I think Greenville will win out.
Anyhow.... I have worked in local tourism for many years and although I don't plan to stay in that industry (love it but I want normal hours!) I would be surprised if you can't find an entry level job in a hotel with the experience you are talking about. Who knows, it could even work into a group sales job. Good luck, it's a fun and interesting industry.

Hey tcar509! My family is planning a move in June '09 to the Greenville area from the Fort Lauderdale area (not too far from you). What I've found is that the cost of living up there is much less than it is down here so we will be able to make less money and still live better. I work from home so I'm okay as long as I have dsl. My hubby's company has a branch in Spartanburg that we're hoping will have a position when the time comes but even if it doesn't we're still going up there as my salary should cover all the basics. He'll find something even if he has to change fields. I hope everything works out for you. There seems to be a lot of Floridians heading to Greenville from what I read on here.
God Bless!
Denise

I personally would be surprised if you were unable to find employment in that specific industry. Especially given the new hotels g-man mentioned, along with the hotels currently under construction.

That's an understatement. I have more sold homes to people from Florida than any other state, and currently have many waiting for their homes to sell in order to buy. Between half-backs, and native Floridians, there is no shortage of folks planning to relocate to Greenville.
