Has anyone tried Huntin Camp BBQ in TR? I'm wondering if the sauce is smoky or sweet? (think Sweet Baby Rays) I don't care for smoky sauce. Do they have bbq cooked in the sauce? I have a hard time finding this. I like when the bbq simmers in the sauce for several hours. It makes it so much tastier IMHO. I'm really not a fan of just a piece a meat and then you add the sauce after. I know this is common in the south tho.
We've probably been there 6 or 7 times, and had mixed experiences each time.
They basically have pulled pork (with BBQ sauce mixed in, but it's a bit spicy not sweet), chicken, and Brisket.
My wife doesn't like even slightly spicy food, so she doesn't eat the pulled pork but IMO it's fairly average for the area (not bad at all, but not notably better than what I've had in most other places).
The brisket has been super smokey and juicy on some occasions, and not smokey at all and a bit dry on others (as if it were finished in an oven instead of a smoker, or cooked a bit hot to get it done sooner).
We've always had good service, and feel that it's generally a pretty good value for the price. I wouldn't drive that far north just to eat there, but we stop sometimes when we are heading back from the mountains.

Meat simmered in sauce??!?! That is BBQ heresy! And no I have no clue if any place around here does that..if they did I wouldn't eat there as I'm not a fan of sauced up BBQ...
I absolutely love Mutt's on 14 in Greer. Their buffet is fabulous and the price is amazing for all you can eat.
My only complaint is that I wish their ribs were slightly less dry - they seem to be that way no matter if I go right when they open, or other times of the day.
I limit myself to eating there no more than once a month, or I will gain crazy weight; it's so rich and good.
How about Big Al's? Been there once and we thought it to be pretty good. JMHO.
That's the rib place down at the end of Woodruff right? I've had their food once when they first opened and so I can't remember if it's good or not. Might have to try it again.
The Smokin Pig on hwy 76 going towards Clemson. It's in Pendleton. Hands down best BBQ in the upstate. This coming from someone who has eaten at hundreds of BBQ places. It's worth the drive. Trust me. There is a reason you have to wait in line to get in the line and there is always a wait. Only open Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. It just doesn't get any better.

Does anyone have any recommendations for places with really good corn fritters? I've been to some really good BBQ places up here, but haven't found corn fritters yet.
