Default airport in greenville/spartanburg area

Hello!

My husband and I are looking to move out of NJ in the next eighteen months (as soon as he gets out of the service); we're just starting out, and we simply can't afford to live in this state. Anyway, I was wondering if anyone had any input on the Greenville-Spartanburg airport. My husband is an aircraft mechanic, and he'd probably end up working there. Any info?

Also, I am an adjunct at a community college in NJ, and I'd like to continue doing that wherever we move. Any info on community/2-yr colleges in the area?

Thanks so much

With your husband being an aircraft mechanic, he'll have some good options in Greenville. There are three area airports with operations based at each that employ a good number of mechanics:

Downtown Municipal Airport:
This used to be Greenville's main airport, and now serves corporate jets and charters. One of the nations largest air taxi services is based in Greenville and uses this airport for maintenance of their fleet. SATSAir.
Fly on your own personal aircraft at a cost you can afford

Greenville/Spartanburg International:
The main commercial airport. Mostly airline traffic, but a few FBO's. Stevens Aviation has a large operation at GSP.
Stevens Aviation - Welcome

Donaldson Field:
At one time a major military airfield, now an industrial park centered around air related industries.
Lockheed Martin has a major operation at the field where it refurbished military aircraft.
Greenville Site Operations Facility | Lockheed Martin
Stevens Aviation also has a major facility at Donaldson:
Stevens Aviation - Welcome

Hope some of this helps with the job search.

1. All three have already been mentioned.

2. Yes, actually you can find out what is going on at Donaldson. There's a website that has info on everything there. That website has also been posted in this thread as well, check that 2nd post buddy.

There's actually 4 airports... Spartanburg Downtown Memorial Airport is the one not mentioned here, but I have no idea what sort of mechanics that have or need.

You might also check out Columbia, SC. I hear a lot of aviation jobs are moving that way.
