I think the annexation laws are very bad, the city limits DEFINATELY need to be expanded....Yes, density should be improved, but some annexation REALLY needs to take place. I mean, look at at Woodruff Rd - the city limits don't start (say you are coming from 14) until 385! That is a joke. It's pretty sad when the Wal-Mart, Sams Club, Kohls, and everything else on that busy road aren't even in the city limit. IMO, the city limit in the Woodruff Rd area should go all the way out to Hwy 14. Just a section of the city limits I notice a lot that should be expanded, I'm sure there are tons more.

I am looking at moving to the area in the near future, and personally, if cities can't annex, that's a HUGE PLUS in my book !!! Cities do not need to have that much control over everything. Here in Missouri, cities can control things 2 miles outside their city limits which is bs to put it mildly! I'm all for locking down city limits and control to as small as possible!

WHAT? So lets say the REAL Greenville area has 125,000, which i think it does. You would rather let the numbers show that we have 65,000. We dont get anything unless we have at least 100,000. We dont show up in city stats nationwide, we dont become a destination and we dont get any special funding. Not to mention people who are paying taxes to simpsonville, mauldin, travelers rest, easly, anderson, clemson, greer, duncan etc. are using Greenville amenities and are not paying the city that is providing it. There are so many benefits to being able to annex.

But as a resident, the disavantages to being in a city as opposed to out of one is huge. Like extra taxes on your property, extra taxes to license a car, higher car insurance, unConstitutional restrictions by the city on what you can and can't do on your property, silly over bearing permit regulations. (like going thru a planning and zoning board just to repaint your porch or else pay a min. 500 buck fine+69 dollar court cost. They were po'ed when i paid in nickels and pennies tho.) But If I hadn't repainted that porch, I would have been fined for letting it look bad. I could keep going on why living outside of city limits is better than in city limits! If a city is providing services to people outside of the city, then the city is charging them for it! And you can bet it's at a higher rate than people in the city. Maybe for the we need more government types they think ther is advantages to the city to annex, but I'm not that much of a trusting of government type. It's a proven fact the more layers of government, the less of your Constitutional Freedoms you have!
