No North End if that's what your looking for. Giovanni's is good as well as Bergamo's. Both located Downtown. I'm a Yankee transplant and love Greenville. Come visit, you'll be pleasantly surprised.

However, I believe that people segregating 'themselves' is the racist concept, not what this high school student has said. When I lived in Philadelphia as a child, blacks didn't venture into the Italian neighborhood after dark and the Italians didn't venture the other way either. THAT'S the racism. Not a naive teenager who's wondering why there needs to be the separation. THAT'S the innocence. Just please, reconsider that you may be innocently misunderstanding this kid's position, that's all. guestposter, if I'm the one misunderstanding and you are saying that you don't want people of other cultures in Greenville, please correct me.

Have you kept up with his/her posts? If not look for them and tell me what you think. I didn't just say racism, I have a problem when people don't like change. To me thats closed minded thinking. Things change whether we like it or not, we just have to adjust.

I didn't see anything at all racist in this young person's post but rather the opposite. I think for someone who is not familiar with the very common cultural segregation in many northern cities, guestposter believed it was the OP that desired to segregate himself only wanting to live near other Italians, while I believe the point was merely about finding authentic Italian food. So, I think there is a bit of misunderstanding as far as each others motives but nothing really sinister.
To the OP, I don't believe Greenville has specific cultural neighborhoods like you see up north. I remember when I lived in Philadelphia there was a lot of very distinct division between cultures with each group (Italian, black, Hispanic etc) staying pretty much within their 'own' neighborhoods. In Greenville, while you will see predominently black or white areas, I have not seen any further cultural segregation.

trust me, guestposter was not misunderstood....

Oh, I've seen some of their other posts but I was referring to the actual posts in THIS thread. Though they seem a bit juvenile, I think they're ACTUALLY a juvenile so I'd tend to respond to them as such. Understanding that it's a kid, my reaction is that we adults should take that into consideration. I guess as a moderator on another board, I tend to be a bit protective when someone's getting jumped on. Let me stop the thread derail now. Hopefully the OP has considered that there are some authentic Italian restaurants in the Upstate area though it seems the answer to his original question is that there is not a specific 'Italian' section like you'd see in many northern cities.

I will enthusiastically second ckeegan's suggestion for Giovanni's. I think we have been to almost every Italian restaurant in the area since we moved (except the really upscale ones, which I'm sure are excellent), and Giovanni's is the best of the more affordable restaurants. Good luck to you!

The Cubans in Miami stick together like glue and the families travel in herds. They speak mostly Spanish (except some English words thrown in - "Splanglish"). Even if their families have been in the US for 3 generations, they will still speak Spanish whenever there is any Spanish speaker around.
I lived in South FL for 12 years and I know.
P.S. It's like living in a foreign country, especially if you can't understand rapid fire Spanish.

We have to accept it--even if we don't like it

I'm not talking about Greenvillle, but the US in general. I don't like the way things are changing. People are more crude now and and manners have flown away in many instances. People are wary and afraid to be friendly. Crime, especially in business, is rampant--just look at Wall St. The politicians are in it just for themselves and not for the good of the country. Many people are just "me, me, me." It's sad to me how the US has changed. Yes, I have to accept it, but I sure don't have to like it.

I love Milano's too, but I classify that in the Greek/Italian group of restaurants (i.e. Milano's, Paisano's, Olympian, Stax, etc)

It is a hard question to answer, and you almost have to factor in land because land is more costly in certain areas compared to others. Since I never like to leave a question unanswered:
The average cost of a new home with 1 or 1.5 stories in 2008 was $94.93 per square foot. This also takes into account any concessions the builder gave to the buyer (i.e. closing costs, etc), and the net sales price averaged 96.9% of list price in 2008.
Hope that helps, but let me know if you need clarification on anything.

PS - Sorry it took me a while to get back to you, but the past two weeks have been really busy. (not complaining)
