Looking for No-kill Shelters in Clemson or Greenville
I am looking for No-kill Shelters in Clemson or Greenville. I found an intact male dog wandering at the Clemson dog show and noone has claimed him. He is up to date on shots and currently being boarded in Clemson.
Any help would be greatly appreciated!

CCA - Concerned Citizens for Animals.
A Rescuer's Creed
They follow the no kill rule. A great organization and great group of people!
My partner and I adopted our black Lab from there. She is the love of our life. She was a stray that CCA found as a pup.....a family adopted her, but the children scared her....didn't work out, so they brought her back within a week.....she stayed at the shelter until almost a year and thats when her eyes and our eyes said "LOVE". She's now been in our happy home for 4 years. CCA sends out foster parents to interview homes before letting pets be adopted. I simply can't say enough good things about this organization!
Can't imagine life without our girl!

If you found him at a dog show it's highly likely that his owners are still looking for him. Have you reported him to animal control so if the owners call they can contact you?
You can also call up the local branch of the breed rescue for his specific breed. If you're not sure of his breed post a picture and I or someone else can probably tell you. Then you can google for breed rescues in the area.
He probably escaped from his trailer, ex-pen, crate, etc. those show dogs are crafty. Thanks for picking him up!

If the animal has no identification on its collar, you can take him to the Greenville animal shelter and have him scanned for an identifying chip. Many animals are identified that way now. So unless you have external identification tags, just calling animal control and giving a description is not as good as taking the animal in. Even if the animal does have tags it might be of benefit to take it in and have it scanned. If the scan finds identification it may have a more up to date phone number for the owner than the tags will track back to.
You didn't say how you knew he was up to date on shots, nor what you did to alert others, but I infer you can see tags to determine this. Either way, a scan is a great thing. I don't think they are going to take the dog away from you even if a scan shows you arn't the owner but you can call ahead and see what the rules are. If the dog was lost at a show, the owner could now be returned home in another state and would need a while to retrieve the animal and it certainly would be better off in private care than in a pound.

this dog is a mixed breed found wandering at the dog show. he was held there (at the show) all wkend no one claimed him. he is not a show dog, he is a mix. I had him scanned at vet. he has no microchip, no tattoo, no dog collar. in order to board him I had to get him up to date on shots. no one in the area has claimed him. I cannot board him anymore and want to place him in a no kill shelter or with a rescue group. ridgeback rescue will not take him in b/c he is only partly ridgeback. thanks for all the info from everyone.

That is absolutely not true. There was an article in the Greenville News last year that showed that the shelter put down nearly 2,000 animals in 3 months. There have been dogs put down the day they arrive. Unfortunately, you have to pay to see old articles in the Greenville News Online, but I have been to that shelter many times, adopted from there, and know that they have no choice but to put down many animals every day.
“There is a limited amount of space that they have up there to put animals on the floor, and so the rest of the animals are left here and they’re either rescued out to rescue groups or they’re euthanized,” Arnold said.

I'm sorry to hear that. I asked a girl at the counter, probably a counter and she said they were no kill. I noticed that some of the animals adoption fees were marked down, way down, and that is why I asked.
Are you sure it was the HS that puts them down though, and not the County Animal Control dept. which is in the same grounds?
