I have never been to Greenville, and Ithink that it is a prosperous metro. I think that in the near future Huntsville will be even more prosperous to the point where it's going to be one of the top metros to live!

My ex just replied to an e-mail I wrote. He's back to work but 150 people got laid off and the company officially said that if the economy continues this way more will have to go. He was pretty negative about Hsv but, honestly, he's not a very postive person in general so...

I had the chance to move to Hsv several years ago but on my last visit there it still didn't do it for me. Somehow I felt it lacked "personality", I didn't find it particularly beautiful like other places I've been to which impressed me positively right away. But then beauty is in the eye of the beholder...

I disliked that to go anywhere we had to get on Memorial Pkwy which had no scenic beauty during summer (so what would it look like in the winter???). It goes right through the center of the city and reminded me too much of how Rt. 13 splitws Dover, DE in two, another place that I thought had no personality at all.

Whatever its "claim to fame" just didn't excite me. The only things I more or less liked were a park (don't remember the name) downtown and the brick buildings there; the city library which had more choices than here in WPB, the view from a mountain (also don't recall the name), and the fact that it's minutes away from the TN border which I would've explored. At the time I was still in love with the beauty here and because I used to drive frequently to Palm Beach to see the water I thought I would miss that and feared that having to look at the drabness (by comparison) of Hsv day in and day out would be depressing. But, again, that's just me. I know everyone's background, circumstances and expectations are different.

I also don't like the idea of a city growing too much. That happened with Orlando which I left after 3 months (in '91) and hear it's ridiculous now, but I can see how some people in their 20's & early 30s my see that as a very good thing.

At my age my idea of a good city to live in is one which has great beauty, nice people, is laid-back but offers a bit of everything, and doesn't have very congested traffic, so I hope Greenville takes its time to change, otherwise I'll have to cross it off the top of my list.

I think you're right. Huntsville seems like a nice city and i've always wanted to visit. Huntsville and Greenville are both ranked in the top ten on this list: Relocate-America's™ 2008 Top 100 Places to Live That's nothing short of great news in my opinion.

Well to Tired of SFL, I want to tell you something. I'm not saying this because I'm from Alabama, but I think Huntsville is a nice place to live. I've been numerous of time and have seen a great deal of personality. Huntsville has a lot of out-of-staters which give it its personality......Also, Memorial Parkway is not the only route that take to everywhere in Huntsville. You have University Drive, I-565, Jordan Lane, Airport Road, Highway 431, etc. Also, Huntsville is the most beautiful city in Alabama. It has a lot of beauty! So in my opinion (not because I'm from Alabama), I think you should put Huntsville on your list for relocation and visit there again!

I think we focus too much on Greenville when there are sooo many really great places in the Upstate besides Greenville. Deciding on which one might even be a challenge. I have lived in Cowpens, Woodruff and Anderson. All 3 had things I loved about them. Plus spent many wondeful summers at my grandparents either in Inman or Campobello.

The economy, climate, geography and people in the Upstate all add up to a great place to live, no matter where you live!

I guess that depends on what you are looking for. Wouldn't you agree that Greenville is the epicenter of the upstate and has more to offer?

Not really. Chrysler is not a major employer in Huntsville. It won't help, of course, but it won't be totally devastating. We've actually been expecting it for years.

I was born north of Detroit, and many generations of my family have worked (and still work) for Chrysler.

This is all I have to say, Chrysler did it to themselves. One of my family members who currently works for Chrysler told me it was virtually impossible to get fired until Daimler came in. They are consistently ranked low (by JD Power and Consumer Reports) in Quality, Dependability, Performance, and Style. So, how long can you possibly last when you're making undependable ugly cars? Not to mention the fact that Chrysler Financial gets $1.5 billion from the bailout and immediately announces that it will use the money to offer 0% financing to borrowers with less than ideal credit! I mean, come on. That would have been like the banks re-opening subprime loans for home buyers with less than perfect credit.

As for Greenville, I honestly don't expect a decline in population. Businesses will continue to relocate here in search of lower operating costs, better quality of life, and lower cost of living. Those who were planning to move to Greenville prior to the "real estate crisis" will be able to sell their homes in their current areas, and will immediately revisit their plans to lower their costs (lower property taxes, housing, etc) and increase their disposable income.

Greenville is, and has been, poised for a boom.
