Another area you may want to keep on your radar is Landrum (in norther Spratanburg County). It is a quaint town with things like antique shops and some eateries and more small town/rural living. It borders Tryon, NC which is another nice little town. The whole area is called "Horse Country" because of the equine-related activities. You could have country living there with the basics like a grocery store and fast food yet be about 20-25 minutes to everything in Spartanburg. Also Spartanburg County has a VERY active elderly meal delivery group--here is is called Mobile Meals and it is one of the biggest volunteer groups in the county--if you move to Spartanburg area it would be a good way to meet people and get involved.

We moved to Anderson from Ohio (via Florida & Georgia) and love it here. The downtown is still growing and it has everything we need with about a 35 min drive to downtown Greenville or 45 to the mountains. One of the best things is we don't have to deal with so much traffic as some of the upstate cities do. After living in Florida, I HATE traffic! LOL

I would say Easley (outskirts off 8) Powdersville, Peidmont, Pelzer and Williamston. We are in the area of Wren High and it takes me 15 minutes to get to the target etc... on woodruff.
