Default Where to take Recyclables in Greer?

Hello Everyone

We just bought a house north of Wade Hampton close to 290. Can anyone tell me where I can drop off my recyclables? I called the only recycling center listed in the phone book and they only take scrap metal. The town I came from had bins in various places for plastic, glass, paper, etc. I've got a build-up of recyclables going on so I'd really like to find a way to dispose of them properly. Thanks.

Ta da! SCDHEC: Land & Waste Management

This was important to me as well so I was glad to see their are so may places to drop things off. The only complaint I have is that the slots are really narrow and i can't just put my recycling can up and dump it. I'm expect that's so people will break down boxes though.

I love that the recycling centers take more kinds of paper than just newspapers. Where I used to live, we could only recycle newspapers, so tons of magazines and office paper, junk mail, etc. filled up countless trash cans -- not to mention old phone books.

I'm fortunate to have a recycling center close to me. I used it just yesterday right after taking all the plastic bags I've collected to the plastic bag recycling container at the grocery store.

I was amazed at how little regular trash I had once I started recycling all my clean paper a few years ago!

Thanks for the website info. There's not a site as close to me as I wish, but it's good to know there is one within reasonable distance. It is amazing how much recycling reduces one's regular trash.

I applaud you for raising this question. I just can't put plastic bottles, cans, glass or clean paper in the trash can any more... no longer part of my DNA.

When we moved here several months ago, I looked for recycling centers as well, and found one relatively close by. The one I've been using is off the corner of Hudson and Old Spartanburg Rd, behind a McDonald's. It's convenient because there's also a manned Goodwill drop-off there.

When we moved out of our temp. apt. and into our new home a couple of weeks ago, I have delivered my share of broken down boxes.... still a lot to go. Hubby's starting to put pressure on me to park his Mustang in our garage.

P.S. Just used Rapunzll's link. The Earth Fair on Pelham is sooo much closer. Guess I'll be switching.

roadpony, if you aren't a freecycle member, you might want to check it out. There are often people willing to take moving boxes off your hands.

Thanks for the suggestion. We also left quite a few in a sheltered spot at our old apt complex and posted a note on their bulletin board.

You can also use Craigslist to find people who need moving boxes. There's usually a bunch of people looking for them in the "Wanted" section and people giving them away in the "Free" section.

craigslist: greenville / upstate classifieds for jobs, apartments, personals, for sale, services, community, and events

I got a good percentage of my moving boxes off Craigslist -- wardrobe boxes and everything. That's a great resource. I recently tried to find Freecycle and was told it's not in my area (Greer).

Didn't realize there is a recycling center by Earth Fare. For me, I still think the one behind McDonald's near Hudson Corners is the closest. I kind of plan my recycling visits according to my other errands, so it's good to know there are more near me.
