Looking for a church
I'm looking for a church in the Greer/Greenville area. I am driven by passionate praise and worship (hillsong style). I would also be looking for preaching that would scare the complacency out of you. A church that isn't scared to say they will strive for excellence. (I'm tired of the secular world having one up on the Christian church goes. As far as excellence is concerned).. Is that church is out there please let me know?

I would recomend Newspring in Greenville. It has very much what you are looking for. There was a thread back awhile ago people not liking it because of the coffee house in the lobby but you have to see for yourself. I a unsure the times for greenville. We go to the anderson campus. They have a website www.newspring.cc where you can see for yourself. They have taped messages from previous weeks. Perry is not afraid to tell you how it is or where to go if you do not like it. Their childrens program is wonderful. My kids beg and ask when church is again. This comes especially from my 10 yr old boy. Check it out I hope you like it like we do.

I have friends who moved from Anderson to Travelers Rest. They went to New Spring in Anderson and now go to the one in Greenville. They love it and the minister. They've been trying to get me to go, but I'm more used to traditional churches... like a First Baptist.

My wife and I moved here two years ago from Los Angeles. We were involved in a very solid bible based church that had awesome worship; The Church on The Way. When we moved here we assumed, bible belt, tons of churches, so finding one should be no problem, right? Wrong! After 14 churches in 12 months we thought that we found a home church; great worship, very friendly and loving people and a caring pastor. After about 2 or 3 months there, my radar went off and I got a really uneasy feeling. Long story short, the pastor, (who is an awesome human being and is sadly very ill right now) was preaching some really far out there theology; I mean some crazy stuff. My heart was broken because my daughter was dedicated there and we really liked the people. That being said, I have to put my family first, so I emailed the pastor explaining my situation and informing him that we would no longer be attending.
For the next few months we visited new churches weekly, but then started attending New Spring for a few months. My wife and I both felt that it wasn't supposed to be our home, and I was getting more and more put off each week when it seemed that being a "trendy hipster" was more important then being a man/woman of God. The trendy coffee drink to Bible ratio of attendees was about 8-1, and this really bothered me. Plus the worship was really a bummer, 95% of the congregation was a spectator and not a participant. Pastor Perry knows the bible in and out, the thing is he's really abrasive and really, really concerned about being popular and accepted. We finally left, and I really asked God to show us a place that we could grow as a family and put down spiritual roots.
We live in Greer, off of Highway 14 and Wade Hampton and drove by one small, non-descriptive church, probably over 300 times. I finally said to my wife, "Why don't we check this place out?' I went to the website and was excited, but tempered my excitement due to the constant let down after two years of looking. The first time we visited, we knew that we were home. The people were so friendly, the worship was awesome, joyful and adoring. The head pastor and associate are both young guys; under 35 and are very current and relevant, but have an uncompromising love of God and his word. For two years, we drove by this church almost everyday looking for some big mega church, all the while the Lord had the perfect church right down the road from us. lol We will become members this April and plan on bringing up my daughter here, God willing.
This is our church; I hope you and anyone else will come check it out. PM me, if you'd like.

They are full on Word of Faith; having been raised in that sect, run, don't look back run.

My family attends Southside Christian Fellowship. It a great church. 3 services, great worship. Charlie is probably the best pastor I've ever had.

WOF teaches that we can be sin free on earth, the Book of John teaches that anyone who denies that we are sinners is a liar. WOF teaches that Jesus was the first man who was born again and our salvation wasn't completed on the cross, but only when Jesus went to hell and wrestled Satan for 3 days. This heresy is found no where in the gospel, how can God be born again? WOF teaches that we can have perfect health here on earth and that we can become mini gods. I grew up WOF and only be the grace of God and immersing myself in his word did I see the light. Jesus said that in the end times many will come to him and say, but Lord we cast out demons in your name and he'll say depart from me I never knew you.
I hope it really bothers you that people have perverted God's word and compromise is new commonplace in the church. If you're bothered by Christians calling out false prophets and a false gospel you must despise the apostle Paul and everything he wrote. We are called to test everything against the word of God and reject any and everything that doesn't conform to it. Just a thought
