Question Mountain Rest, Walhalla, West Union, Seneca

Had this posted in the general SC area but saw the sub-forum of Greenville and moved the thread here:

Hi,

Now looking at the Mountain Rest area - hopefully a little cooler than the rest of SC in the summer. I see that Seneca is probably the closest town with 'people' meaning a Lowe's, Home Depot, etc. To get to Seneca, you drive through Walhalla and West Union.

According to Moderator cut: linking to competitors sites is not allowed statistics both Walhalla and West Union have a 20% hispanic population. I can only assume a significant portion of those are illegal; so my question is how bad are those areas crime-wise, school-wise? Since Mountain Rest is in the same county, I could see taxes rises to accomodate the influx of immigrants and I am concerned about traveling through towns with a significant population. However, interestingly enough the crime stats in both were lower for violent crime than Mountain Rest although I don't know how recent the reporting was.

Am I being overly worried or are their grounds for it? Over a year ago I was looking into the Slater-Marietta, Traveler's Rest area but read in an article that there are such high numbers of immigrants in those areas that certain areas are mostly hispanic stores with Spanish signs and no English signs - instead of a little 'China town', it was a little 'Spanish town'. I can't remember the numbers but I thought % of population of hispanics in the Marietta area was maybe only 10% so I am wondering about the environ with a 20% population?

Thanks.

I'm going to be heading walhalla area in the next few months if i can remimber it all i'll bring you back a full report on those ol boys down there and what there up to good and bad, even pics if i get any decent ones, i wouldn't put too much into stats 20% of some 3000 people seems like an awfull lot of hisp, last time i was through mountain rest it's just a small hole in the wall not many homes there but it is a nice area, you can call oconee county & get tax rates from them also.

Illegal? LOL
I live in Walhalla. I dont know if they are legal or not. As far as crime, I think they get one here and there drunk driving but that is about it. Sure every once and awhile there is a major crime but i have never broke it down in my mind what nationality the criminal was.
