RIP Carbon Motors. Having teased Greenville as a possible manufacturing site but then choosing Connersville, IN, it appears that the futuristic, purpose built, BMW powered police cruiser is DEAD.

According to this article, the company has shuttered the plant and the management team has fled.

Is Carbon Motors Dead?

Don't be too shocked if something similar happens in the future, locally with Proterra. While at the moment they seem to be "holding on", their business model is not generating fiscal growth.

Proterra got federal funding, CM didn't.

Proterra is burning through federal funding and orders are coming in only at a trickle. Like I said above, they are holding on at the moment, but their whole company is built on risky financials.

Should a company really have to rely on federal funding?

2 for 2 today, I said years ago that Proterra was a high risk company. It has stayed around longer than I thought but, it is not a long term enterprise. GM will get the technology which is the only real asset.

Until Proterra actually shuts down, Gsupstafe's assessment will be wrong.

This whole thing sounded like a slam-dunk when it was announced. Too bad really. Could have been fantastic!

Probably better that they didn't locate their plant here. Sounds like another 'green energy company' boondoggle.
