I used to like Paw's Diner in Clemson - nothing fancy but a good local inexpensive bacon-and-eggs place. Haven't found much in the way of breakfast in Greenville - the one bagel shop I liked, Baker's Bagels, closed down a few months ago.

Try Greenfield's Bagels & Deli in the Verdae Village shopping center. It is very good and has been popular for many years now.

Wow, great feedback. Apparently, a lot of breakfast eaters on this thread. It's sounding like Stax's original and Tommy's Ham House are a definite visit. Has anyone tried Peggy's Diner 2 off Rutherford? Ckeegan, I like your idea of "Triple D Upstate." Go for it!

There's also Denny's too. Their corporate headquarters is in Spartanburg so it helps the local economy.

Perkins has really good breakfast too, but again, it might not be "mom and pop" enough for the original poster. I don't see how the food at one of the local places would be any better than some of the above-mentioned places like Mimi's or Perkins, though.

No one has mentioned Gene's yet. Downtown opposite the library. The inside is still in it's 50's/60's decor. Really good biscuits and gravy. Typical Southern, artery clogging breakfast.
The waitresses will call you "honey" or "hun".

I mentioned Gene's, in post #8 of this thread:

It was sort of buried in there, though.

I've heard great things about Grits and Groceries, out in the middle of nowhere near Belton. I really need to make the drive out there sometime.
