i have to agree with JViello on this one. my husband and i just visited greenville and surrounding area in april. the downtown is beautiful... some very nice areas of homes...BUT then there were just to many areas like the pictures posted here. that was the deal breaker....it was much to common for my liking.

And thats fine! But there are 21,000 people that move to the area annually that see things differently. Those are the ones were focused on.

all depends what is acceptable to you!! and where you are looking to move from i personally don't want so many of "those types of areas" that were shown in the above pictures...percentage wise i found it high in the area, and downtown does not compensate enough for it.
i see nothing wrong with others hearing other opinions...and then they can judge for themselves

I voted YES in the Mauldin alcohol referendum and it was passed! You cannot buy hard liquor after 7pm and never on Sunday. Not sure what time constraints are placed on beer and wine sales.

Well honey, if want to see nice areas other than downtown, I'm sure someone will show them to you. The Eastside, Augusta Street area, Cleveland Park, North Main, Green Valley, Montebello, Paris Mountain, all the Cliffs developments (including the one Gary Player moved his family and headquarters to from Palm Beach), the various neighborhoods of the Golden Strip, on and on. Downtown is but a small portion of the nice areas.

We have been thinking of moving to the sun belt for the past two years and have considered Hickory, NC, Johnson City, TN and Bowling Green, KY but Greenville is the most beautiful and progressive city by far. We have drooled over the pictures posted by Skyliner and others and it reminds us so much of our beloved Holland, MI only on a much bigger scale.
The big question is whether its going to be possible to find employment in Greenville. I'm a receptionist, accounts payable/receivable, office assistant person with 25 years experience.
Have forclosures been a huge problem in the area?

This is a reminder of the OP's questions, can we please stay on topic?
If not I will have to close the thread which is unfair to the OP. Please only post if you are answering their questions, thanks.

Yes. Much of the area around Greenville is unsightly. Overhead powerlines, bad roads, tons of old strip malls. This is why I live IN Greenville. To me there was no other option. We moved here for career reasons. If we had other, better career options, we would have chosen another city (where the communities have made larger, smarter investments, and protected the visual appeal of the area). Having said that, I live and work near downtown and love it. When we go through other surrounding areas to go hiking, biking, etc., it gets depressing fast.
I know of few, if any foreclosures in my neighborhood. Home prices have risen slightly this year. As for jobs, I'd have one nailed down before moving, if at all possible.

I would disagree that Downtown is a small portion of the nice areas.
They are few and far between. It's really black or white there.
I don't think trying to downplay christina923 post (Calling her "honey") is valid. She brings up a valid point for the OP.
