Greenville-Spartanburg is basically one continuous metro, and thus the two cities are not very far apart. As for areas specifically in between the two, Greer gets my vote. It gives you great access to shopping, dining, GSP International Airport, and interstates (I-85, I-26, etc.). Plus, downtown Greer is cute and charming if you want a change of pace from the hustle and bustle of the Greater Greenville area.

If that's true then why are they separate MSA's?

I highly recommend the Pelham-Batesville area. Here are just a few reasons among many more:
  • Lots of very nice neighborhoods
  • Good shopping and dining nearby
  • A high quality village hospital plus another nearby in Greer
  • A great soccer academy nearby
  • Quick access to I-85
  • Closer to Greenville and better shopping/dining/entertainment, etc...

Highway 296 / Reidville Road has boomed with quality developments. The road parallels I-85 several miles to the South and connects Spartanburg with the Woodruff Road / Five Forks area in Greenville. Live in the middle and you can be in the shopping areas of Woodruff Road in 15 or 20 minutes, or in Spartanburg within 15 or 20 minutes.
