thinking of moving to simpsonville sc
My family is thinking of moving to Simpsonville,Sc. Has anyone moved to this area recently? We have looked in other townships and this is the one that mostly feels like home in Upstate, New York. The schools are smaller but the school ratings are nothing in comparison with the schools in New York State? Anyone has any experience with the school district? Are they truely as friendly as they seemed? If you've ever been in New York everyone is always in a hurry, that no one has time to even say Good Morning. OUR daughters who are of ages 8, 12 & 20 where truely impressed with the community feel and the southern hospitality.
Now having to sell our home and relocate because of work, is a little stressful!
Looking for the real deal on south carolina.......

Hi tech. Although I have not recently moved to Simpsonville. I WILL be moving there in August. We have already bought a lot and are in the process of building there. We are also relocating for work. We have made several visits to the area and have found people to be very friendly, lots of culture (ie...theater, art, etc...), lots of family orientated activities and easy access to every store and restaurant imaginable. We absolutely love it. If you would like any resources for info on the Greenville area, including Simpsonville, just send me a PM. WE have done lots of research. Also for much more info on Simsponville, visit the Greenville-Spartanburg subforum.

Simpsonville
Hi, we moved to the Simpsonville SC 7 years ago and have not regretted it at all. In the Upstate, you are one hour away from the beautiful majestic mountains of NC and 3 hours to historically rich Charleston, 4.5 from Myrtle Beach and any other beaches you so choose between the two cities. The Upstate of SC which Greenville/Spartanburg and Anderson are a part of is protected from alot of the winters storms that come from the west because of the NC mountains. Lowest temps we have experiences are 20. but the weather changes and one day it can be 30 and next be 70. and....compared NY..very sunny year round!! Our children have been in Elementary/Middle and High School while here. We moved from PA where every area was its own school district. Greenville County has 1 school district with many schools in each grade level, (elementary k-5, middle 6-8 and high school 9-12, my kids are in Mauldin high school and talking to them who know friends from other schools, if you will be living in Simsponville, Woodmont School is small and the building is brand new, more push on the academic side which seems to lack slightly in other schools. They redistricted a couple years ago around the lower simpsonville area and many from the Hillcrest High got xfred to Woodmont and love it. As far as sports rivalry Hillcrest and Mauldin are the top rivals, but the football games can be a little "interesting" ..lets just say that cops are all around. Greenville County Schools are a blend of nationalities as is New York but actually much safer from what I understand..being a Northerner the class sizes weren't all that threatening to us, but for those who lived here all their lives and watch their children be put into classes of 30, made them a little uncomfortable. You will find Simpsonville and the whole Greenville Area to be at a much rewarding slower pace than the north. It drove us "CRAZY" at first but now, we can't stand traffic and conjestion when going to other cities. The best thing we like (just coming from Wilmington on a mini vaca) is that the main route to get anywhere fast is I385N, takes you to anywhere you want to go. Of course if you want a more scenic way or have new drivers there are alternate ways to avoid highways. Simpsonville Fairview Road Area is getting more built up every day so there is conjestion, but NOTHING of what we experience in the north. Simpsonville is quite big, so you do have your choice as far neighborhoods with lots of kid where houses are closer together or buying an older house with more land with quiet more "mature" atmosphere. The cost of living is lower, thus the job market pays at a lower scale which we found disappointing at first, but my husband and I both found jobs that increase pay yearly with has definitely been to our advantage. For the most part, the people here are nice. Alot of the people are people like you and me who are transients, there are a few people who have difficulties and still believe the civil war is still going on, but you will find them more in the boonies with their confederate flags awaving ;0) so we just avoid that type of person. But Simpsonville is a great place to live, so come on down!! Hope this helps.

People here are indeed as friendly as they seem, and quite often more friendly once you actually get to know them. I have been to New York on several occasions and know exaclty what you mean by the "hurried" lifestyle there. I am glad you found the community feel and souther hospitality of the Greenville are impressive. It is one of the attractive elements that make the quality of life in this city/metro so high. I hope you find everything you are looking for once you settle down here. There are so many opportunities for enrichment beyond the immediate surface, including a wide variety of groups that meet to develop personal skills in hobbies, plus recreational facilities, parks, and trails "hidden" from the general pubic's eye.
If you have any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

I just wanted to thank you for your very informative post --- I found your information to be very helpful to me. We too are moving from PA (the very crowded Poconos) and will be traveling to Simpsonville in June to check the area out and the schools are a big concern to me. I have an 7 & 11 year old that I send to private school because of all the nonsense that goes on in the public school here. Thanks again for your honesty.

Moved to Simpsonville 6 months ago
We just moved here 6 months ago from Ohio. We have two elementary aged children and have been happy with the school system thus far. They both attend Plain Elementary where we find the staff very friendly and helpful. Simpsonville is a very friendly and growing area. We have been very happy with our move and decision to choose the Simpsonville area, as I am sure you will be also. Good luck with the move. Having recently gone through it myself, I know the stress it can bring. But have faith it will all come together....

Greenville is loaded with several great private schools, which I recommend any day over the public schools to those parents who are willing to invest extra in their child's future.

Why Are the Public schools here so bad! What about all those that can't afford private schools. I know Pre school was 10k a year or some insanne fee. It would be cheaper to move where the school system is up to par!
