Default amenities near Landrum, SC

My husband and I will be moving to our new home in Landrum/Campobello in about 2 months. We just love the area; so beautiful and peaceful and we are very much looking forward to this new chapter. We've spent a couple of weekends looking around (we're currently living in MA) and I do have family in Greenville, SC.

I am looking for a fitness center (larger one with an array of fitness equipment and classes if possible) as well as grocery stores that might be nearby. I realize we will be a bit out in the country and some of these amenities may not be easily reached (within 10-15 minutes) but I thought I'd check here to see if anyone if familiar with the area.

I know that there are larger grocery stores in Spartanburg and Greenville and that will be fine to make that 20-40 min drive once a week if need be. . . does anyone know if there is a grocery store closer than those two cities? Tryon NC is another option but they seem to offer the same sort of options that Landrum does.

Also, has anyone heard of a larger fitness facility closer than Spartanburg to Landrum? I know there is a curves but that isn't exactly what I am looking for. I need lots of options (spin classes, equipment, etc) to keep me engaged as physical activity is not an automatic habit for me.

Thanks so much for any information you might have.

There's a Bi-Lo supermarket and a very nice and relatively new Ingles supermarket in Landrum. Tryon has an IGA - not very large but well managed.

There's a fitness center in Tryon - Clyde's. I'd check 'em out before running down to Greenville or Spartanburg.

There is a feature on some of the real estate search engines that will locate the grocery stores, theaters, schools etc. near the property that you've pulled up. Lycos I think does it. It's very cool. We're looking between Greenville (closer to Greenville) and Landrum for a home with 7 acres or so of cleared field or pasture for our horses. Looking forward to easier winters as we are from New England as well.

I live near Landrum and my favorite grocery store is Ingles when I need to shop closeby. But I like to run up to Hendersonville to Fresh Market and Harris Teeter. When I really have the time, I head to Asheville for EarthFare or Greenville for Whole Foods and EarthFare. ManaCabanna in Saluda has great organic produce and fresh shrimp and even have a CSA you can join.
Tryon Health and Fitness is probably the best gym you will find close to Landrum. But it's not like the ones in Greenville.

Stroupek-
Thank you very much for the great tips! We often shop at Ingles now. You were absolutely spot on about Fresh Market, Harris Teeter and Earth Fare. We've had Whole Foods up in MA and am pleased we can still get there for a few things. Still need to get up to Saluda for ManaCabanna next time we eat at Purple Onion (love that restaurant).

Cyde's is closed now but I will go up and check out Tryon Health and Fitness. There is also Bodysculpture and Rehab right in Landrum that I hear has weights, cardio equipments too. I may try these out for a bit. If I can't get in a groove then I may end up making regular trips down to Spartanburg or Greenville if I need the push for organized fitness.

Loving it here in this area though-it's absolutely beautiful and the people are so very nice. This place is a balm to body and soul after living in a frenzied place like MA.

I was originally going to post this---

<<<There is a nice Food Lion grocery store in Tryon.
For those who don't already know, I thought I'd add that there is a mom and pop Radio Shack in Landrum.
They have more of the older electronic DIY items than the newer ones do.
I've lived in the area for three years and found it just last week.
Much closer than Boiling Springs and Spartanburg for me.

I'm glad to hear you enjoy living here as much as I do.>>>

in response to original post, but I made some changes, then my mind wandered.
Just realized that I also forgot to say my thoughts about sell/lease are pretty vague, and not in any rush because I'm still not sure what I want to do.

Oh well, better late than never.

JEP
