Public Meeting Tuesday, January 19, in Mauldin Concerning I-385 Design-Build Widening Project
Jan 12, 2010, 15:48
The South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) has scheduled a public information meeting Tuesday, January 19, concerning the widening of I-385 between West Georgia Road, Exit 29, and Woodruff Road, Exit 35.
The drop-in meeting will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the cafeteria of Bethel Elementary School located at 111 Bethel School Road in the City of Mauldin.
The purpose of the meeting is to provide information to the public concerning the limits and scope of the project, the project schedule, and the plan for maintaining traffic during construction. This is an opportunity for the public to ask questions and to comment on the project.
The project scope includes widening 5.5 miles of I-385 to six lanes and rehabilitating the mainline and ramp pavement within the corridor. The majority of the widening will occur in the median utilizing concrete pavement. The completed project will include a 10-foot inside paved shoulder, three 12-foot travel lanes, and a 10-foot outside paved shoulder in both directions, separated by a concrete median barrier wall. Two travel lanes in each direction will be open to traffic during construction, except for limited nighttime lane closures. The speed limit will be reduced within the construction zone.
For more information, contact Tommy Elrod, SCDOT Program Manager, at (864)241-1010 in Greenville or at elrodjt@scdot.org. Persons with disabilities who may require special accommodations should contact Karen Davis at (803) 737-1549.

Nothing mentioned about upgrading the I-85/I-385 intersection along with this, eh?
I know, it's really needed! I hope they plan ahead and leave the ability to widen those flyovers without having to redo them, but knowing the SCDOT I won't hold my breath.
One thing I did not see in the article.....the sound barrier walls along the sides of 385.....I thought some of these barrier walls were to be added in places near neighborhoods.
