Default Relocating to Travelers Rest from Erie, PA

Hi all, I am glad I found this forum. My husband and I are seriously considering moving to Travelers Rest from Erie PA within the next 6 months. I haven't found the Travelers REst website to have much information. How are the high schools there? I plan on attending Greenville Tech as a full time nursing student. Is that a good field to be in there? How's the demand and pay? Is anyone familiar with a house on the corner of Duncan Rd and Lindsey Lake Rd? Familiar with that area? Also, are there any pictures on this website of the Greenville area?

Glad to hear that you guys are considering a move from Pennsylvania to Greenville. Travelers Rest provides a nice "nature" feel while still giving you good access to downtown Greenville. I do not know specifics about Travelers Rest (schools, taxes, etc.), but several regular posters live there and love it. Perhaps they can chime in.

There are many picture threads here, with almost all of the pictures courtesy of our resident photographers (they are quite good!). Here is a thread to get you started. It has over 400 posts, so that should keep you busy for a while!

Please let us know if you have any additional questions about the Greenville metro. I think you'll find it to be just what you are looking for!

Personally, I think a move out of Erie will be GREAT for you (or anyone, for that matter).

Travelers Rest is a nice little town about 10 miles out of Greenville. Most of your daily needs can be met there, such as groceries, etc., and Greenville is close enough for what you can't find in TR. It definitely has a more rural feel to it (which is why I bought land there) and is pretty close to the mountains. The best view in town is the WalMart parking lot! I don't have any personal experience with Greenville Tech, but have heard good things about it.

Right now, employment is suffering, as it is almost everywhere. Greenville has a large hospital system, with satellite hospitals in almost all of the surrounding towns, inclusing TR. There is also another hospital downtown. I think the medical field will be very strong in the Upstate once the economy starts to recover because it is a strong growth area, and is starting to attract a number of retirees, which means more jobs in the health fields.

I concur that Wal-Mart/Murphy USA gas station has some of the best views in TR - especially during foliage season

For anyone reading who is interested, the official Travelers Rest website is TravelersRestSC.com. Also of great interest in that area is the gorgeous campus of Furman University.

I am not familiar with Travelers Rest High School, but do know that Gateway Elementary is great. The high school recently moved into a beautiful brand new campus, so that is a plus.

Is this the location of the home you are interested? Use "Street View" to see photos. I don't know that area very well, but it is very close to town and a short drive to the mountains.

Greenville Tech's nursing program is highly acclaimed and therefore recommended for nursing education. I assume you are planning to become a Registered Nurse (RN)? I know someone who recently graduated after three years of school (paid for by Greenville Hospital System), with a part time job at the hospital while in college, and is now employed full time as an RN, earning over $20 per hour. The demand for nursing is always increasing as the region continues to grow at a steady rate.
