Default Did Anyone Move Here From the Orlando Area?

We just came back from a vacation there and I was just curious what brought you to the upstate? I think this is on topic. I apologize if it isn't.

I moved here from West Palm Beach (I grew up in Ft. Lauderdale though), if that counts at all.
I met a man in South Florida, but he lived in Greenville. Eventually I moved up here and we got married. He has a 14 year old son, and we agree that Greenville is a much better place to grow up than South Florida. Even though the public education system leaves much to be desired, at least he's relatively safe here.

I guess the reason that I asked is because it was so beautiful down there and clean looking. So do you believe Greenville is just as nice? For clarification we stayed in a resort in the Kissimmee area right near Disney. What a blast!

I like it better living in Florida. I like the beaches and nice weather. I like being able to swim in the ocean any time I want, all year 'round. I also like the variety of things to do and people to meet.
Some people can't deal with the heat or lack of seasons, which I understand, I'm just not one of those people.
I think Greenville is nice for other reasons... like the lower crime rate. It's also a slower pace of life here, which can be good at times; and people don't drive as crazy.
Oh, yeah, and no hurricanes, lol.

Interesting. I felt people were driving slower on I4 than I85 or I385 and people didn't seem to cut me off as much. I guess its all perception. Either way I enjoyed it and think its a nice place to vacation. It was more humid of course.

Mono, I live in Orlando. DM me if you have any questions. Orlando is far different when living here. The crime, the rude drivers, etc... Greenville offers a much better quality of life. Been there many times, used to live in WNC.

I am surpised you thought people were good drivers - that is one of our biggest complaints. We have sooo many drivers from NJ/NY and Latin America now - lots of aggression and road rage now. This isnt the old Orlando anymore.

I will sum up why I dont like Orlando (anymore). 10 yrs ago, yes, but now now. And I can almost be certain that any other Orlando resident/native will back me up on this...

1-crime - last year we were 11th most dangerous city in usa.
2-very transient - in and out. from nj, go back to nj. moved here to flip houses and not they are moving back. leaving all of us to stare at overgrown weeds and out of control lawns.
3-rude people - dont get me started. lol. it's not the natives, its the people that orlando attracts.
4-road rage - angriest city in america - forbes magazine 2006
5-habla espanol? whites ARE the minority now. take that statement for what it's worth.
6-congestion/traffic - takes an hour to go 14 miles in the mornings
7-jobs (lack of) - service oriented
8-foreclosures (my house value in 2006 - $330k - now it's half of that.
9-everyone is from nj/ny/the carribean (lack of sense of community)

.......your reasons for leaving ORLANDO are exactly what I fear is happening right now to Greenville. I've seen it coming for the last 5 years. What a shame it is for us!

I saw nothing wrong with Orlando. Seemed to be prospering and the area I was in was very manicured and clean.

What do you see that I'm not seeing? You all have road rage? I havent seen it or experienced it, not to say it doesnt happen from time to time. You all need to know spanish in grocery stores? You all have foreclosures everywhere? I have 944 in my zipcode - reported in the beginning of this yr. You all have lots of congestion and traffic? Rude people? Transient? Really???
