Okay, here are some of my favorite restaurants.
Downtown:
-Larkin's on the River
-High Cotton
-Bistro Europa
-Blue Ridge Brewing Company
-Barley's
-Overlook Grill
-Chicora Alley
-Charlie's Steakhouse
A few more, and I haven't been to O, Soby's, or Rick Erwin's yet...but all should be very good.
Other good restaurants outside of downtown:
-The Peddler
-Chophouse '47
-North Main Soda Shop (small place in the north main area. most customers
are those living around north main.)
-P.F. Chang's China Bistro (Woodruff Road)
-Augusta Grill (Augusta Road)
-and of course chinese food at the mall's food court!

Bump for wallstreet. Do a search next time. It's pretty hard not to find a topic that hasn't been done by now.

Of course, the main difference is that this thread is for Greenville restaurants and the new one is for Upstate restaurants. Considering the size of the Upstate, I can see the need for one, but perhaps this thread could be merged into that one to include all "best" Upstate restaurants in one thread? Just an idea...

My wife being filipino and pregnant was seriously jonesing for some authentic vietnamese food yesterday. Coming from LA (the capitol of asian and mexican food) our standards are high. We went to Pho 99 on Wade Hampton just south of Pleasantburg, for lunch and in a word the food was AWESOME! My wife had the chargrilled pork over rice and I had pho, (vietnamese noodle soup) with vermicelli noodles and meatballs. It was as good if not better than any vietnamese place we've eaten at in Los Angeles. It was too much like LA in one regard though because like almost all asian restaurants there the service at pho 99 is non existent. No check back to see how the food was. Want more water? I had to go up and ask for a refill, twice. They weren't rude at all they were just invisible once the food was served. But hey, the price was right, the place was spotless and the food was outstanding.
On a related note the most interesting thing we've discovered food wise in the 3 months that we've been here is that the ethnic food is surprisingly on par with anywhere else in the country. That was a big fear of ours, it no longer is. Good ole' american food however is waaaay below average here for some reason. Poor quality seems to be accepted here but I think that is changing, slowly. Go figure?

Went to Pho 99 again yesterday. It was freakin' amazing. My wife and I laughed that coming from LA the best vietnamese we ever had would be in Greenville. She had the sliced grilled pork with rice and I had the pho (noodle soup) with sliced rib eye.YUM!!!!! The place was very busy and I'm glad that I wasn't the only non asian in there. I would really recommend people try this place. Dinner for two plus leftovers for under $15 including tip. Can't beat that!

Went to Saffron yesterday for their lunch buffet. The place was packed and $6.95 for delicious Indian food can't be beat. Oh yeah, it's on Woodruff (isn't everything on Woodruff these days?)

They are still there, yes. I haven't been there in many, many years though. I recall it being similar to the common greasey burger joints around the South.
