Actually John's now at the swanky-looking Woodlands retirement community near Furman, last I heard.

Bad food or just a one time bad experience?
One thing I love best about Greenville is the wide variety of restaurants. But I will say, I've had a few bad experiences, too. I have always liked Liberty's Steakhouse and have always had great food. Took some family members down there for a birthday dinner - what a mess. Most ordered steaks or prime rib - usually the best choice in a steakhouse, right? We waited over an hour (on a not very busy night) and when we finally inquired about our food, we were brought our cold dishes. Those who ordered prime rib actually had congealing au jus on their plates...ew!
We, of course, asked for the manager - instead of the restaurant manager taking the time to come to our table (again, not a busy night), the just-off-work and in her street clothes kitchen manager came over and said "Hey guys, how are you doing? Getting drunk yet?" (This is to a group of age 40+ adults - I really wish I was kidding.) By this time, we had been at Liberty's for almost an hour and a half. We ended up leaving to go to another restaurant at almost 9:30pm - really ruined the night.
On the plus side - I've never had a bad experience at either Soby's, Devereaux's, or Trio's - all I highly recommend! Your servers can really make or break your night - and all have a well-trained staff.

Liberty Tap Room & Grill is not really a "steakhouse" per se, and I would not place it into the same category as Devereaux's, Soby's, or even Trio, regardless of the difference in service quality. I would compare Liberty more to Blue Ridge Brewing Company (better than Liberty, in my opinion), Rafferty's, or Barley's Taproom & Pizzeria.

Agree 100%. Add the disgusting interior of the kitchen and it is easily a top contender for worst restaurant in the Upstate, in my opinion.
