Cool Carolina Ale House coming downtown.

Looks like the old Kimbrell's building is about to get some new life: http://www.greenvillesc.gov/city_gov...MainStreet.pdf

Website for restaurant: Home - Carolina Ale House

Default interesting

That's interesting news considering I had someone inquire about putting an upscale restaurant in there and they would now allow them to due to the owner having a competing business so close.

It looks like it will be a nice place that will be a great fit for downtown.

Sigh, looks like another sports bar. Glad the building won't be vacant but I would so love for Greenville to attract (and support) a real "pub" instead of just another bar with the usual bar food and big screen TVs. Preferably not a chain but, if a chain it must be, then something along the Ri Ra line. With a good beer selection, pub atmosphere and a menu that doesn't mostly consist of wings, nachos, spinach dip, etc. And the ability to order a half pint would be great too. :-) Don't know if Simpsonville's downtown could support it but that would be a great addition. There's nowhere even remotely like that to go for a beer after work.

I meant they would "not" allow them. Sorry--fingers before the brain.

Yes, Barleys (along with Coffee Underground) is one of my favorite downtown places. It best captures the pub-like atmosphere. Great beer selection and the pizza's not bad either. But I'm thinking something just a bit quieter and more intimate. Though it's great that Barley's is so family-friendly. I rather miss Sophisticated Palette. It was a nice place to linger at the bar with a drink and conversation.

Have you tried Stellar Wine Bar? It has a nice sophistication about it.

H2H will be a cigar and martini bar where Latitude used to be. I think it has a lot of potential too.

I used to work at Takosushi, where the sophisticated palette used to be, the owners of SP were very nice and i'm sure it was a great place to hang out, but I think they were happy to retire
When I lived in NY there was this great place called the old toad, a british pub setting, very nice and quiet, authentic british food and decor, great cask beer, so I get what you are looking for

This is a wonderful development and just what Greenville needs another place to eat, drink and pay the citizens here $8.00 an hour!

As if we don't already have enough low paying jobs here in Greenville.
This is what really concerns me about the city of Greenville and it's priorities towards making progress........such focus worrying about entertainment places that do nothing but provide this city with another place to eat and drink.

Don't get me wrong it is nice to have these places to enjoy after work and on weekends.......in fact there are a few others I would love to see here in Greenville. However this is not the type of economic growth that carries a city or its citizens into the future!

Fantastic job city of Greenville........more low paying jobs for all!
