I have always thought that a nice outlet mall at the I-85 Powdersville exit would do great, especially if it was similar to the one in North Myrtle Beach or the one in North Charleston. If it included a Bass Pro Shop, it would be even more successful. That exit is close enough to Greenville, Spartanburg and Anderson to draw large crowds of shoppers.

I think that would work in Powdersville, but where? Is there any space close enough to the interstate to have something like this?
An outlet center would also be a nice catalyst along the Southern Connector. The Tanger Outlets in North Charleston have caused a lot of development in that area, and it would be interesting to see what it would do to an exit along the Connector. I will stop now, so as not to totally hijack the Powdersville discussion.

The fairly large piece of undeveloped land bordered by I-85, S.C. 153, and Cooper Road would be perfect for a mixed-use project with retail, restaurants, and hotels. This is the same property that a triple-A baseball stadium was proposed prior to the Drive (fka Bombers) organization's move to Greenville. That proposal included hotels, restaurants, and retail. It is prime real estate and a highly visible location for top quality development. A side entrance to The River Reserve is located on Cooper Road, for reference. That neighborhood stretches along one half of Woodson Lake and down to the Saluda River. Just across the river is beautiful Acadia and across the lake is the Woodson Lake subdivision. Across S.C. 153 is a nice new neighborhood called Raven Hills.

Sorry GMan--I didn't see your directions until after I posted.

I was wondering why I didn't see the trademark white Cadillac parked outside lately!

I don't even know what it's going to be. LOL. I've heard everything from Target to Bloom to Ingles to CVS.

Last I heard, CVS is planning a relocation to one of the vacant corners at S.C. 153 and S.C. 81 after their lease expires, and Ingles is considering building at their current location. Bloom is definitely out of the picture. Apparently they were near a deal before the economy tanked, and now that BI-LO is being purchased by Bloom's parent company, they obviously won't need additional market coverage in Powdersville for a while.

Powdersville
There has been a lot of debate by the old timers but to my knowledge no one has been able to say exactly how it got its name. The post office did start recognizing it as a mailing address for certain zip codes a while back. Parts of 29673 & 29642 can use it. I believe there is a website for Powdersville. You can check out www.powdersville.com.
