Default Are There Friendly People in Greenville?

Are people friendly in Greenville? By that I mean, will a stranger actually speak to me--not proselytizing about religion--just general conversation? Will people talk to me if I start a conversation with them?

Do couples have other couples they've met over to their homes for dinner? Or entertain at home in any way?

I grew up in that type of environment and miss it a lot.

Yes, and people you don't know will wave to you as you pass by for no apparent reason.

People are so very friendly in the Upstate. When we traveled back North for a family function we had to remind ourselves - "whoops we are not in SC anymore" when people would look at us strangely for saying "hi", smiling at them, or telling them to have a blessed day.

Yeah, they're friendly here. It's infectious too. Before I lived here, I'd grumble if anyone said "Good Morning" uninvited, and if a stranger said "hello" it was a reason for suspicion. Now I wave and smile at everyone, and know all of my neighbors.

Yes the people here are friendly for the most part and will wave and say hello to a stranger. There is also a push towards discussing religion whenever a conversation starts........usually they open that door by assuming you go to church and asking what church you go to.

Default Oh Yeah!

We visited Greenville a few weeks ago. We are planning to move there from Philly in the spring. After meeting some wonderful folks there, I cannot wait even more to move. Everyone was so friendly. It reminded me
of being at my Memaws in WV when I was little. I have never felt more at home, or that I belonged anywhere more. Oh yeah! Greenville is an awesome place and I can't wait to be a part of it permanently.

People are extremely friendly in Greenville. Having lived in much larger places and being a gay couple, my partner and I didn't expect to fall in the love with Greenville, but we did. We fell in love the very first weekend we visited. People smile, say hi, and generally seem to have a positive attitude. We would refer in casual conversations to ourselves in the "We" tense and people got it. It didn't seem to matter.

One thing that sums up Greenville was a report from a couple of years ago. Based on charitable giving, Greenville was the number one city in the nation....Greenvillians, per capita, donated more dollars to charitable organizations than any other city. That says a great deal about the quality of people in a place. I'll see if I can find that article and the statistics and post.

These responses make me feel great. My husband worries that if we move to Greenville to retire that people will not be friendly and we'll not make relationsips within the community.

I just recently moved to the area from Chicago and was shocked (and pleasantly surprised) by how friendly the area has been. It's such a refreshing change to encounter common courtesy and pleasantries again. Having only been here two weeks and not knowing anyone the small chit chat at the grocery store or just the passing hi while walking the dog has made me feel not as homesick.
