I am not entirely sure where Sunny Slopes is, but I suspect it's north of town on US 276? There are areas of town that don't exactly seem ... how to put this witout insulting anyone ... they don't exactly seem to be areas where people care about their neighborhoods or their homes. In that general area, the business also have bars on their windows. I'm not sure if that's a sign of crime in the area or just a sign that kids are bored and have too much free time on their hands (there is no Cedar Point here, after all).

I live in a neighborhood called Northcliff (the new phase is currently being marketed under the moniker of "Poplar Forest" for whatever reason). This is a pretty safe area. Our neighborhood is zoned for Gateway Elementary, Northwest Middle, and TRHS. Although I've heard both bad and good things about Gateway and Northwest, my kids' experiences at Gateway have been pretty good...no complaints from me other than that it seems like they're getting a private church school education in a public school sometimes. You may want to check with vwsam about Northwest as his kid goes there and there have been some interesting stories shared between Mrs. RT and Mrs. vwsam, to say the least.

There are zoning laws here, but you really can't tell it given that you can have $500,000+ homes right next to a trailer park right next to a gas station. I'm used to everything being neatly zoned as well, coming from Central Florida. It takes some getting used to and home values could potentially suffer as a result of this.
Hey, i live in Poplar Forest! found this thread searching for something else on google, but i thought i'd chime in I've lived here for about 6 months and absolutely love the neighborhood and location. It's out of town (greenville) but not too far, I have a view of the mountains from my back porch and the amenities are great. Moving from a FL market to here really helped too since we were able to get a house here for $190k that would normally be $300k+ in jacksonville. If you are looking, I would check it out since they recently finished about 4 houses and there are a few others for sale too. Good luck in your hunt!

PS I might see you around the pool RestedTraveler

I just love the name 'travelers rest'. As a lifetime traveler, I need a rest...and the idea of settling down roots in 'travelers rest' is an interesting concept
