There are seven school districts in Spartanburg County. The one's that you'll want to focus on are probably (in no particular order):
District 2/Boiling Springs High School (the Boiling Springs area of Spartanburg County)
District 5/Byrnes High School (the towns of Duncan/Lyman/Wellford/Greer/Moore)
District 6/Dorman High School (the westside of Spartanburg/Moore/Roebuck)
District 7/Spartanburg High School (the eastside of Spartanburg and downtown Spartanburg)
These are the schools that you'll find most people will say are the "preferred" ones in Spartanburg County, esp. for people moving into Spartanburg County looking for good schools. These are also going to pretty much closely parallel the more developed areas of Spartanburg County where most new arrivals find themselves moving to.
The one I am least familiar with is Boiling Springs High School. Not sure if it offers the same resources and opportunities as the other three, it's just that Boiling Springs is the fastest growing area of Spartanburg County with lots of new subdivisions, shopping, etc. so the school is getting more notice by people moving to the area.
Dorman High School is the largest high school in terms of physical size in the state with a new "campus" built maybe ten years ago. I also think the student body is one of the largest in the state. Spartanburg High is the high school closest to downtown proper (which I think is 29307) where you get a mix of students from high-end neighborhoods and lower-income communities. Both Spartanburg and Dorman High Schools have strong academic reputations and a variety of advanced academic classes. Byrnes High School is my own alma mater--they are constantly expanding the facility with a brand new Fine Arts Center just built. It also has a good academic reputation and lots of community involvement. School District 5 (the district which includes Byrnes) has built at least six brand new schools for other grade levels over the past ten years.
Not sure what you are looking for home-wise, so if you need further info just ask.
And I would also recommend the school report cards from the poster above as well as contacting the districts for information and school tours.
Hope this helps!
