Default Question about Downtown Greenville

Hello,

DH and I are pretty new to the Carolinas (we moved to NC in 2007), and we're slowly exploring the area.

I have heard that there are some great shops and restaurants in downtown Greenville.

Can anyone tell me if the shops and restaurants are closed on the weekends, particularly on Sundays? We were thinking about making a roadtrip down there this weekend, but don't want to go if everything will be closed.

Also, we're interested in seeing Falls Park (looks beautiful!), and since we love being outdoors, it is likely that we'll have our dog with us. Do any of the restaurants in the area have outdoor seating where we could bring a medium sized (35 lb), well-behaved dog with us? Or, should we just pack a cooler and eat in the park?

TIA for any advice you could provide.

Not sure about the shops that may be closed on sundays, maybe someone else can help you with that.

But as far as the dog, most of the restaurants in Greenville that have outdoor seating are pet friendly and will actually bring a cold bowl of water for your dog.

the ones that I have personally been to with my dog are:

Compadres (mexican)
Sharky's (typcial bar food)
Wild Wings (Typical Bar food)

honestly you would have tons of possiblities, almost every restaurant on the downtown strip has some sort of outdoor seating, and I don't think many of them would have a problem with you eating with your dog, I saw a dog eating at the table with its owner one day, lol

This is good to know - thank you!

I have asked this question in the past about other cities, and have received some angry replies from folks who don't agree with some restaurants with policies that allow well-behaved dogs on outdoor patios. That's why I'm asking in advance about Greenville... it helps to plan ahead.

I should have also stated that I don't mean to bring my dog inside of any of the shops. We'll probably just window shop and pop inside in shifts (one person goes in while the other stays outside with our dog) if we find something interesting.

many of the shops and restaurants will be closed until 1pm on Sunday, though, so plan on doing a park or 2 that morning. Sometimes if we get downtown too early on a Sunday we drum our fingers for a while...

What shops and restaurants do you like to visit on Sunday? A few are closed all day. There are at least a few good places open in the morning on Sunday.

There is a pet shop on Main Street (Barkery Bistro?) that you may like. I have also seen many water bowls set out for dogs at various shops, also. I would heed the advice about going to the shops on Sunday afternoon - Sunday morning is pretty quiet downtown but it is a great time to visit Falls Park, plus parking is easy that time of day. Falls Park is very popular for dog walking, you should find many fellow dog owners there.

Too bad there has been so little rainfall the past few weeks, the falls have been reduced to trickles (so to speak), but the area is still really nice to visit.

Barkery Bistro sounds like its right up our alley. The dog in question is a beagle - he won't let us pass a dog bakery without stopping. Good thing said dog also likes to go hiking, or else he'd be pudgy!

It is a great little place for dogs, cats, and their loving owners. Be sure to check ahead to be sure of their shop hours.

Overlook Grill, in a prime spot next to the falls and Liberty Bridge, has outside seating and allows dogs. Other than pets not being allowed at public events (street festivals, etc), downtown Greenville seems to be quite dog-friendly.
