Does anyone know if Greenville Schools will be participating in President Obama’s Address to Students Across America? Will the general public be able to see the address as well?
I just happened to hear on local talk radio someone say they called Brushy Creek Elem and they had no idea that this was happening--but that they had received several calls from concerned parents about it.

I'd like to know this. My kids are all adults now, but I am worried about exactly what topics he is going to talk about. Global warming? Health care? I hope not.
Applying themselves to their school work to do the best they can.... I have no problem with that sort of thing.
The President will challenge students to work hard, set educational goals, and take responsibility for their learning. He will also call for a shared responsibility and commitment on the part of students, parents and educators to ensure that every child in every school receives the best education possible so they can compete in the global economy for good jobs and live rewarding and productive lives as American citizens.
The Florida GOP released a press release "condemning President Obama's use of taxpayer dollars to indoctrinate America's children to his socialist agenda," which is probably the source of all the phone calls.

When I first heard this I thought it was a joke! Then I realized it was true coming from the Propaganda in Chief. I know several parents who are keeping their children home that day, if the schools participate. Maybe TOTUS can do a speech to the children next time. LOL!

I found my answer to the second question on the Drudge.
MEDIA ADVISORY: President Obama to Speak Directly to Students in National Address on Educational Success
WASHINGTON, D.C. – As children across America go back to school, President Obama will deliver a national address directly to students on the importance of taking responsibility for their success in school on Tuesday, September 8th at 12:00 PM EDT at Wakefield High School in Arlington. In advance of this address, the Department of Education is providing resources developed by and for teachers to help engage students and stimulate discussion about persisting and succeeding in school. The speech will be broadcast live on www.WhiteHouse.gov and C-SPAN. The speech is open to pre-credentialed media. The deadline to request credentials is 6:00PM EDT tomorrow, Thursday, September 3rd.

You know he will need the first "T" when he makes his address! He never leaves home without it!

I heard on the radio yesterday, the Supt. of Greenville Schools said they are still studying the idea, but as with most things like this, parents will be able to opt-out. The schools, if they decide to go with the Obama address, will send out parent authoriziation requests.
So many school districts are already saying thanks, but no thanks, so I assume that Greenville will follow suit.

At first, I thought it was a bit overreactive to not want kids exposed to the POTUS. Even if I don't agree with his politics, I didn't think that it would be bad for kids. In fact, as discussed in the other thread about the problems in downtown Greenville, some of these kids could use a positive role model to tell them to pay attention and focus on education. As well as give them some positive reinforcement. I still believe that and I hope that is what he had in mind.
Then I saw this YouTube - I Pledge! and it scared the snot out of me (from 3:15 minutes on). Demi's last line is chilling! Just as parents screen their kids' tv and internet access, they should be screening against this propoganda as well.
Why do you think the President's speech will be similar to that Youtube video?
