I'll be moving to the upstate soon and would like to know the inside scoop on where people buy their plants... annuals, perennials, shrubs, trees... are there good wholesale nurseries around the area? Greenhouses? Garden centers? Or do you just go to the big box stores and choose from whatever they have? What are your favorite places, and why? Thanks in advance for the info, and hope to see ya there next Spring!!
Check out Martin's. They are a bit off the beaten path....not really close to any neighborhoods, but their quality and selection is some of the best I've found in the area.

My wife and I planted over 30 shrubs last fall and chose all of the above. We used the Home Depot on Wade Hampton (taylors or Greer?) because they have a very knowledgable gardner that was helpful. We also found a woman on CL that had a variety of plants that she grew in her greenhouses and we bought some from her. Finally, we used Lichtenfelt Nurseries Inc - more info »

They were on the way to the transfer station, where were taking the old overgrown shrubs that we pulled out. They have a big selection of plants and shrubs.
The one thing we did wrong was failed to add more color. But, a few of the plants didn't make it, so we'll fill in with more colorful options.
County Boys on Woodruff Road is our go to Nursery. The people there are professional, they always have a good selection and is just a neat place. You must go there during the Christmas Season which will probably start in a couple of weeks (LOL). They have a great selection of trees and garland.
I enjoyed the Piedmont Plant & Flower Festival at the State Farmers Market on Rutherford Road in Greenville back in May. I’m relatively new to the area, but I’d guess that this is an annual event.
I also like Country Boys, and plan to check out Lichtenfelt Nurseries.
Here’s another similar thread with several of the same recommendations - Favorite garden nurseries. At least people are being consistent.
Have you been to Underwood this year? They seem to be slowly dying, thanks to the recent drought and current economy. I wouldn't consider it a viable supply option for landscapers these days.
South Pleasantburg Nursury is a nice place I have purchased plants from recently.
Nearby (just north of Greenwood) we have Wayside Gardens and the world famous Park Seed Company. They offer wholesale products as well. Both are located approximately one hour south of Greenville. I try to visit them at least once annually.

Where did you purchase your roses? Have you ever been to South Carolina?
