I have enjoyed watching a small community garden develop next to the Bon Secours St. Francis Health System's main campus just west of downtown Greenville since earlier this Spring. It is a great way for the surrounding community to join together and reap the healthy benefits of their labor. I know other similar community gardens exist around the Upstate and hopefully they will also be mentioned in this thread.
Here is a video highlighting the St. Francis Community Garden:
There was one near the Golden Strip Relief Center this past summer. Not sure if it was run by that agency or another, but I did hear it was very successful.
Love it! Thanks for posting. We'll be moving to upstate in Spring '10 and have been looking for area community gardens. I've worked with the Damayan Garden Project in Tallahassee, FL this year... they install gardens in communities and schools, then guide volunteers through the first couple of years to help establish a successful garden. A wonderful way to get to know the neighbors!
