My husband and I are moving to Greenville from England in 4 weeks time and are very excited to start our new life in what seems a wonderful place!
Due to the type of visa we are travelling on, I am unable to undertake paid work but would like to know any suggestions on how I can meet new people without having a job! Clubs, groups, volunteering etc...(ps, I am 27 yrs old so needs to be age relevant!)
You can check with the local Chamber of Commerce in the town you will be living in. They need volunteers or ambassadors in most of them. Greenville Hospital System, Upstate Coalition for the homeless, Homes of Hope. The list could probably go on and on. Look for a newcomers club in the town you are moving to also, they should be able to help you. Welcome to SC.
You're in the belt buckle of the bible belt; so how 'bout church? Here's ours, if your interested, very friendly diverse congregation, we actually have a woman from England in our congregation. We'd love to have you.
You can call any school in your area too. We have many grandmoms or not working moms/people who help out with things. Reading to kids wtc. They do have to be background checked though. I met many people doing that.
Thanks for all your ideas, will definitely try them out - 3 weeks until arrival! x
