I read somewhere on the net that McCar Homes will be closing its doors in the atlanta area. I assume that will be the case here also. Has anybody else found out more information regarding this topic.

I heard from a co-worker who live in the Heritage Park Subdv. that they were auctioning the remaining lots there a few weeks ago.

I live in Morning Mist, there is a fourth phase that was cleared, but no lots were started....McCar had taken over Morning Mist from Lazarous Shouse a few years ago.

Internet rumor is that the are filing for Bankruptcy.

Default McCar Homes Closing

Do you know what builder will take over the remaining lots that McCar has? Was the auction open to anybody or just builders?

McCar (and MDC before them) was based in Georgia, so that's probably "it" for them as a going concern. We live in an MDC-built home, and it's been solid & comfortable.

I lived in Morning Mist until a few months ago, still trying to sell our house. When we did our 1 year walk through the inspector from McCar told me that the land for Phase 4 was never turned over to McCar from Lazarus Shouse. Appparently, Lazarus Shouse saw how well McCar was doing there and were planning on developing that phase themselves, of course all of this was before the market went in the tank.

I heard that rumor about LS and the Phase 4 land. LS also owns the two lots on the first street to the right in MM (my street). Doubt if that will ever be built on.

I think McCar's homes look nicer than the LS homes.

Default Peace Out...

McCar has already pulled out of some of its developments in GSP area. There's a neighborhood over in Simpsonville that Lazarus Shouse has taken over. The subd. was about 65% complete I believe before they just simply stopped. I think its Shenadoah Farms. Not sure who's next, but if business doesn't pick up next Spring, the company is sure to close its doors. There's a sister company in Atlanta that builds homes very similar in style/price (family relative) and they have already shut it down.

Default McCar out of greenvillle

I found out that creekwood and tanner estates by McCar is being taken over by legendary communities. It looks like they build a nice home. Construction is starting on their homes in the subdivisions now. We will see what it looks like soon. Has anybody heard about the other McCar communities in greenville?

Ryan Homes is now building homes in Forrester Heights. This was a great selling community for McCar for the last few years. We are starting at a more competitive price with some great homes. I certainly don't like to see any company struggle (especially McCar), but we are very excited at the opportunity to be in such a great community.

Does anyone know if McCar is MDC? We purchased an MDC home in Shady Oaks subdivision in Kennesaw GA, north of Atlanta in late 2000. We and many of our neighbors have had multiple problems with our homes. The air conditioning units keep breaking down, this has happened to us and to at least 5 of our close neighbors in a neighborhood of 29 homes. Now I am reading that toxic drywall may be responsible for these problems. Not only drywall imported from China may be involved, but drywall manufactured by Georgia Pacific, based in Atlanta, may use the exact same process to manufacture their drywall. Just wanted to know if our neighborhood was the only one having these problems.
