I think for the most part, the crime is high in certain areas of Greenville. Those areas are easily avoidable.

From what I have seen, it is the west side of town. There are certainly some pockets of niceness there, but personally, I wouldn't say buying there would be a good investment.

The title of this post makes it appear that Greenville is crime-ridden. Nothing could be less true. Crime is so much less an issue here than in any of the several other Southeastern cities I've lived in.

It's all relative to where you are moving from. Folks have a different view of safe or otherwise, based on their own perspective and upbringing. Coming here from the midwest, I was surprised at the amount of violence. I don't feel as safe here as I did in the midwest area (again relative). I would agree the west side is not a good place to be.

I been here 2 months and I've seen very little crime. Police seem to do their job here... maybe too well. I would suspect crime might increase with the holidays as it does everywhere. I think you just have to be aware of your surroundings here like anywhere else. As for myself I grew up and lived in Detroit for 30+ years which can be a dangerous city. In Detroit there were daily news reports of assault, robbery, car theft, drugs , murder. I was a victim of crime a few times in Detroit though for the most part I avoided it. Greenville is like Candyland to me. I probably live in the worst part of Greenville and its like living in a burb back in Michigan. Greenville is just a really quiet town. Things close up here pretty much at 10pm.
