Is this the better path to take. I coming back from Knoxville and want to see the whitewater rivers and lakes. attached is picture of the path so far. I only have enough time for one pass.
I recommend taking Highway 11 east through Pickens County than taking Highway 25 south where Highway 11 intersects with it in northern Greenville County. It might take longer but it's gorgeous. Beautiful mountains, rivers, and lakes.
you know, right after I posted this I got a travel guide from the chamber of commerce of Greenville. it got all the road trip info I needed. The brochure also suggests hwy 11.
Thank you for you suggestion G-man.
I also see on the map there are very few places to see the chatooga river. Really looking forward to seeing that. Just hope theres no problems driving south from Knoxville this thanksgiving weekend.
OK. still need some help with this last segment of my trip.
From waypoint 3 (Chattooga river put in) to waypoint 4 (Greenville)
I need to cross the Jacassee or the Keowee lakes.
What path would give me a better view of these lakes?
I use the scenic HWY 11 and make a quick stop at Devils Fork state park.
OR
Drive down a little south and cross at SR-130
OR
even more south on HWY 123
My goal is to go from Knoxville to Greenville and get a look at the 2 whitewater rivers and the at least one of the lakes. (not enough time to look at all the lakes)
Definitely stop by Devil's Fork State Park and look at Jocassee. When traveling along S.C. 11, you will cross a smaller northern portion of Keowee, although it is quite beautiful there as well.
I would also recommend visitng Clemson, as you indicate on your map. From there, I would travel down U.S. 76 to I-85 and catch I-385 into downtown Greenville. This way you would see portions of The Motor Mile (Laurens Road), Woodruff Road, and Haywood Road retail areas in the same short trip. Three large outdoors/sporting goods department stores (Academy, Dick's, & Sports Authority) are located around the I-85 and Woodruff Road interchange. The region's largest and busiest movie theatre is located near the same interchange. The state's largest super-regional mall is located at the I-385 and Haywood Road interchange.
Which direction will you travel after leaving Greenville?
If I'm understanding you correctly Skyliner, you are talking about 2 different paths right?
Either the devil fork via route 11 OR the Clemson on I-85.
But not both together.
Wait, I reread your post again and now I understand.
I am trying to cut down on drive time for that trip (i have a cranking guy from hawaii coming with us and he starts bitching if the drive is greater then an hr) LOL its true.
