Default Is this a good area of town?

We're relocating to Greenville and want to build ... so we're looking for a town home to purchase and resell later .. or possibly rent.

I noticed several for sale in Inglewood. I love trees and screened porches and these town homes seem to have that look ... at least some of the ones on sale. The fact that several are for sale makes us wonder if it's a good area of town. The street name of the listings is: Inglewood Way, Greenville, SC 29615

Does anybody live nearby to reassure us? Also ... as far as resale goes ... or the possibility that our son will be moving east and he would live there. We would want him in a safe area of town.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. It's so hard to "look around" online being 7 hours away.

I wasn't familiar with the street, so I mapquested it:

Map of Greenville, SC by MapQuest[1-99]+Inglewood+Way&zipcode=29615&country=US&latitude=3 4.86315&longitude=-82.3432&geocode=BLOCK

Yeah, it's a pretty good area,5 minutes from downtown and 2 minutes to the mall; anything on the "East side" is pretty decent.

Thanks, Sonrise. I remember your name when I was using City Data to locate a church in Gville. Thank you so much for the info about the East side. I know the town's growing that way (and south) but wasn't sure if this location may be too close to town and not as safe. We were focused on Easley and Furman area initially to avoid the busy commercial areas .. but it seems what we consider "good" churches are on the eastern side of the city.

Did you ever settle into a church there? We've visited RWOC since we wanted the spirit-filled and long worship time ... but don't know that it's what we want. I remember your comment that most churches were 'baptist' and we've also found that there's more of that "type" also. Rather surprised since we lived in AL for 18 yrs and had many options.

The only thing negative about that area is that it is fairly commercial, meaning that it is near a lot of offices and businesses. It is a nice clean area, but not overly residential. Hard to properly describe the mix but if you want to be nestled in an area that is clearly purposed for homes and apartments it might be sort of busy for those expectations.

I am a Realtor specializing more in the Spartanburg area and have to admit that I am not familiar with that development, but I can look into it for you if you would like next week.

We've been here for almost a year, best church we've ever been to in our lives. Very loving, family friendly, spirit filled, but orderly, and biblically sound.

Shane, thank you for your comments. I do have a realtor in Gville, but asking questions about "nice area" seem to be off limits for realtors to answer. So, this forum is a great place to get some candid views.

Commercial is not favored by us, but would be more interesting if our son moves east and would take this townhome. What attracts me is the green and trees, etc. The age really bothers me (late 70's) ... but newer townhomes don't seem to value trees and green. Such is the dilemma of our move there. We would love to find a newer home already built ... but to have a home nestled into the woods seems to be impossible since all the trees are cleared and grass is poured in.

We've lived in a "natural" setting for 20 yrs and can't go back to green lawns. The neighborhoods we've lived in have kept the trees and natural plants around the homes. Wonderful for morning walks in the neighborhood. :-)

We haven't seen any neighborhoods like this in the Gville area. Sad.

Sonrise, thank you for letting me know where y'all settled. I've had your church down to visit next time we come down since we're now looking for land on the east side of town. I'm listening to the message "The Holy Spirit" as I type ;-)

I like the complex you originally spoke of, but if you like trees, mature ones that is, check out the following link and look at Briarcreek Condos, they are older, but lots of trees in the rear of the complex, and looks like good value for the money. Also check out Woodwind in Mauldin. Exit Upstate - Subdivision Quick Links - Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Greer SC

It is hard to find condos here that have more than a couple of feet of lawn between the parking lot and the front door.

You might want to look at 1200 Pelham (at 1200 Pelham Road). It's a condo/townhome development that I think is newer than Inglewood, but it is pricier as well. It has mature landscaping and lots of trees.

I agree about Inglewood (there's a "sister complex next door with very similar condos/setup). We've often toyed with the idea of selling our house and buying there - many condos have 2-story great rooms, and mutliple decks. Very wooded, and cozy. Plus VERY convenient location!
