Default Advise on Greenville area?

Hello Everyone,
I am hoping to move to the greenville area next year. I have never been there but after doing a lot of research I think it would be a good fit for me. Right now I live in upstate NY and lost my job 3 years ago. So now I find myself retired and have to give up my house the taxes are outrageous. I'm looking to down size to a smaller home or condo and will only have about $85,000 max. Since I will be moving alone I'm looking for the safest neighborhood I can find in my price range. I also will be bringing my 3 indoor cats with me and am wondering about the HOA rules. Also can anyone recommend a good realator who will really look out for my interest and not just in making a sale. I would really appreciate any help or info.
Thank You.

Summerwoods in Mauldin sometimes has condos in that price range as does Briarcreek. I have looked at both for myself in the future. McDaniel Heights does too, although those are apt style. I have no idea about pet restrictions.

I love your nick btw!

Here is a link to a site that is great when it comes to looking for listings, although it helps to know the name of the complex or subdivision. You can click on the tabs at the top to arrange the listings by subdivision or city. Exit Upstate - Subdivision Quick Links - Greenville, Spartanburg, Anderson, Greer SC

Default Don't shortchange Spartanburg

We are from upper New York state, and originally planned on relocating to the immediate Greenville area; but after we chacked out the Spartanburg area, we changed our plans. This smaller city has numerous art and entertainment possiblilites, less-expensive housing, and far less congestion problems, yet still offers immediate access to the interstates (and a half-hour, more or less depending on exactly where you are, from Greenville). Greenville is a beautiful city, no question, but do yourself a favor and include Spartanburg when checking things out.

I found the best of both worlds - I live on the Spartanburg side of Greer, off Rt. 296. It's the very outer edge of Spartanburg, so you can the half-price taxes but only 5 minutes from Five Forks - a fantastic area for shopping. I can see horses from my backyard but downtown is only 20 minutes away. I wouldn't go too deep in Spartanburg - but look in the area off of Rt 296 between 101 and 290. Great access to hwy if needed, several inexpensive neighborhoods. Just did a quickie search - Duncan Station averages about $100K for homes, but in this market, you could probably get an even better deal. Duncan, Reidville - all nice small neighborhoods. They're getting ready to build a new shopping plaza with a grocery store as its base at the intersection of Rt 296 and 101 - just food for thought.

Default Also from Rochester

Dear Noodlesknowles I am also from Rochester and worked at the Democrat and Chronicle which is now in it death throes. I take it you like it there. I'm pretty adaptable and have all ready decided to just jump in with both feet and love it there. I so appreciate everyone's suggestions and will check out all the different areas. I'm open to any and all information that anyone wants to share.
