Default Thinking of relocating...any advice?

My family is considering relocationg from PA to the Greenville area. My husband is an electrician and I am wondering what the market is like in the area at this time. His work is very slow here(currently laid off). Also, what are the best areas to look in as far as the schools go? We have two little ones who will be starting school in a couple years. That is a priority for us. Also, what areas should be specifically avoid. We plan to take a trip in the near future to check things out but we would like to narrow things down a little bit. Any input would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

I'd say just in general, the "East Side" of Greenville, much of which is actually outside Greenville's city limits, is great and has good schools, and areas of the Golden Strip (a string of suburban communities heading E/SE down I-385) are new, growing areas with nice schools. And, there are also charter/magnet schools within Greenville's city school system that are great as well.

Living "in town" tends to be a bit pricey for what you get, while the East Side tends to be higher-income neighborhoods ranging from established townhome communities to McMansions & beyond. The Golden Strip has mostly middle-income to upper-income areas that are newer and have lots of newer retail (Simpsonville has everything from Kohl's to Belk to Pier One & Ross).

Greenville is a great choice for your relocation. There is plenty of shopping, restaurants, amenities, affordable homes and an overall good quality of life for you and your children. Regarding your husband needing work, right now the job market is not good. Lived in Greenville during a lay off, a lot of months spent looking for work and ended up getting a job and moving back to NYC. Would be best for him to have a job before you both relocate. Greenville is a diamond in the rough that is growing but has not reached it's full potential yet.

Good luck.

There is lots of industry in the Upstate that often rely on industrial staffing and placement agencies for positions like electricians. I would suggest your husband look at that avenue in his job search in the area. Those types of positions usually pop-up pretty consistently.
