I have to add my two cents. Tony is probably refering to the Berea area, which is near Saluda Lake. Berea is a fairly large area, but I will say that my memory of Saluda Lake is that it was definitely a safe place to live not long ago. When you look at a map with crime reports, it is not always an accurate reference for a specific place. Some of the nicest neighborhoods in many cities are right next to some of the worst. A crime map in such a case would not be completely helpful.

Funny, I live in Upstate NY(rochester) right now and the neighborhood I live in is gorgeous, tennis courts in front of my house, right next to the river, on a beautiful trail that leads to lake Ontario. However, if you looked at the crime stats here, I bet it would be hard to differentiate between the neighborhood across the river and this one(across the river being not so nice) so I get what you are saying, thanks for the input!

That's probably true in a lot of cases, and may be true in this case. I've driven around the lake many times and the neighborhoods do look safe, clean, etc. I've also lived in parts of this town that made my convenient shopping areas Berea. I will not live there again.

I also understand the comments regarding crime maps not always being accurate representations. However, I've lived in the Greenville area for about 8 years now and find the crime map to make sense in this case. If you had asked me to color in a map of parts of town to avoid, it would have looked very similar.

Anyway, I'm not here to pick an arguement, Just trying to be helpful. Hope it all turns out well for you.

We live on Saluda Lake. We love the lake. We moved out of state for several years & then moved back to the lake upon returning to Greenville. There are not any cottages for on the lake. Where are you moving to? There are some condos.

A friend of mine lives there as well, and they take their boat out for tubing, skiing, and all that...however I don't know how the rest of the lake is. I actually canoed across the lake a year or so ago and there was a whole big section that was no deeper than 3-4 feet in places. But then there were other parts that were very deep, so who knows.

If you google 'saluda lake sc' there is an article about the restoration of the lake. Saluda suffers from eutrophication, or lake old age. Shallow lakes tend to suffer from silting and fertilizer run-off, and evidently Saluda is being restored somehow.

Default Lol

actually there are cottages, and I rented myself one for the next 12 months! thanks everyone for the info! the lake was beautiful and the house is secluded, so I have no worries of crime because I don't believe anyone could find the home if they wanted to!(although I do have a couple neighbors close by, for safety the owner of the property said the same thing the gentleman above me said, they are working now to dredge the lake, but to her knowledge, the lake was over 12ft deep at the dock that sits right next to my cottage. here are a few pics of my place, just for fun:
