We're buying a home this month and not that it's a huge deal, but some info I see on the house lists it being built in 1967 and some in 1968, and one other 1969.
Does the county have any type of information from back in those days to go look at to find out exactly when the house was built? Possible floor plans that were possibly submitted back then, and if so, which dept would have it??
If you're around locally then you could also go down to the Register of Deeds office at County Square (that houses the records from the link above). They have a staff that helps people with questions similar to yours, and I've found them very helpful in the past. I suppose you could call them too.
+1 to the toilet tank idea. One of the more reliable ways to check the year a home was built, assuming they haven't been replaced.
The assessor can be wrong on everything from square footage to year built. In fact, I have seen them incorrect on year built by a margin of five years, especially when records were a little more iffy.
Thanks CKeegan. I'll check the toilet tank. I doubt they've been replaced, would surprise me as nothing seems to have been replaced in that house but the fridge. I saw your post about real estate atty's - with you mentioning Keegan - would take it you're related in some way???
I've checked the county records and have found all the deeds back to the 1800's to present. The original owners owned the property 10yrs prior to building I believe. On the website it shows a change in title from both husband and wife to just wife in 1968 and says "for 1969" under comments, so I'm thinking possibly it was 1969??
