Closing on house next week, called Travelers directly for a Homeowners Ins. rate quote. Before I give everyone and their mother my info, can anyone recommend who they found to be priced well for homeowners ins after calling around and doing price comparisons? Would like to know if there's an ins. company there that seems to consistently have better rates than others, if that's possible
Did you call an agent, or directly to the company? Is there an insurance agent that deals with many companies to get multiple quote out there?
We use Allstate. Many years ago I worked at an agency and could get discounted coverage through it but they couldn't beat the price I already had from Allstate. If you combine all your coverages with them (and most other companies do this too) you get a sizeable discount on each line of coverage.
I wound up with Travelers. I did not even think about State Farm [or former insurer] after they cut off my Florida parents after 30 years without a claim.
I've had Travelers for years and my ins has gone up up up. I have 3 houses, 2 cars and my commercial ins with them.
I've gotten a much lower quote from St John's Insurance Co but can't find out much about the co. They are rated A by Demotech but don't seem to have any rating at AM Best.
Have you tried them for a quote? They seem to be writing wind coverage even for houses that fall in the wind pool. Travelers hasn't assigned me to the wind pool either. I might be grandfathered in with them.
I'm on James Island in the Charleston area.
I don't know if Erie Insurance covers your area or not, but here in central PA we have our homeowners and auto insurance with Erie and we get fantastic rates on both.
Whichever agency you decide on, check into discounts for homeowners and auto with the same company. It ended up saving us hundreds of dollars a year to do this.
We have Travelers also. When we first moved to Greenville, we had State Farm but then they raised their auto and home owner rates. Travelers is much less. Now that I qualify for USAA, I plan to check their prices also (already checked it for auto and they were signficantly less).
